Hello everyone,

Does anyone know anything about UPenn's polisci courses? The majority of the posts here are about M&T, Wharton, Huntsman... I just want to know why CAS is special too.

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know anything about UPenn's polisci courses? The majority of the posts here are about M&T, Wharton, Huntsman... I just want to know why CAS is special too.

Thanks!

I know CAS has a special and popular program called PPE (politics, philosophy and economics) that you should look in to.

I absolutely loved political science at Penn. The program is broken into four categories: political theory, American politics, international relations, and comparative politics. Each area has world class faculty and some really fascinating courses. I graduated two years ago with a political theory concentration, and I loved every minute of it.

Here are some fun courses I took:

Analysis of Presidential Elections - basically answering the question of how a president gets elected, we got to go on a trip to NYC to meet with analysts from NBC News

Shakespeare and Politics - considering the political meanings in Shakespeare’s plays

Conservative Regimes - evaluating the policies of Margaret Thatcher, Helmut Kohl and Ronald Reagan

Who Gets Elected and Why - a pretty sweet course with Ed Rendell, former PA Governor, and packed with extremely knowledgeable guest speakers

Congress and Elections - looking at what makes Congress tick, how laws really get passed, seeing how Congressmen make decisions; took a trip to Washington, DC, to meet with the chiefs of staff for Sen. Arlen Specter and Sen. Bob Casey

I also did research in the department starting junior year.

What shocked me was that even though the department is HUGE - the third most popular among College students - it is very welcoming. My major adviser was the major adviser to every single student, and she knew my name from the moment I walked in her door. I felt at home in the polisci department and had a great relationship with several different professors, one of whom is a reference I have used for multiple job applications.

Do you have any specific polisci related questions?
