CAS regular decision SAT

can i get GSP if i applied for Steinhardt? Communication?

that can't be true
they wouldn't do that...it's a solid school but not ivy league or anything

The regular decision pool is intense this year. My friend got into CAS with a 3.5 UW by applying early decision. My other friend applied regular decision with a 3.7 UW GPA, similar SATs, similar courseload, and better ECs, but got put into GSP.

I don't believe that either. My friend got into GSP with a 1250. NYU probably doesn't have a cutoff if he was accepted with that SAT.

i got into gsp with a 1390 old scale and i called them and an admissions officer told me that the avg sat score of those that were admitted had a 1410 old scale... ***? also, i had pretty good ec's and rec's and essays... the person told me that i was a very strong candidate but that there wasnt enough space... i dont believe... nyu probably got really hard to get into

qwerty1012, was that for NYU in general, or just GSP?

qwerty, what kind of ec's did you have, what was your essay about, and what were your SAT II scores, if you dont mind

hm. i applied and got into CAS with less than a 1400 last year.

and nyu got less applications this year. this applying class must have some outstanding scores if the average is that high.

If 1400 is the average - first of all that's very different from a cutoff. If it's an average, there will be many admitted students with scores below 1400. Secondly, if it's an average of the admitted students (which is all it could be at this point) that's different from the average of enrolled students. NYU is an ivy safety so they probably get a lot of apps from people with high scores and most of those people are probably admitted. That does not mean they are coming.

exactly what i wanted to say...

after reading so many of these, it seems like a lot of people who got 1390's got into gsp (including me). maybe nyu's admission is a little more objective than we thought it to be. if that nyu is a college like that, i have no interest in it...

if i were to have a 1410 on the sat's i might have gotten in. but if you think about it that's like getting one math problem right. i hope i didnt get rejected because i got one math prob wrong... that sucks... so i like to think it was just another reason i got rejected.

ok look you were not rejected. you got into gsp which is a great program and it is nyu! if you were rejected then you would get a rejection letter on april 1st and would not be able to attend nyu at all. if nyu is what you want you should be happy because you are getting a chance to go.

i feel you but it's just not the same...

qwerty1012 unhappy you got into nyu. you need to realize not a lot of people get a chance at nyu.

qwerty, it's definitely not the same because you won't get the freedom to pick a lot of your classes.
However, you'll still be in the same environment, with most of the same people, with the same diploma and opportunities and internships.

If i were to get gsped i'm not sure that i'd go just because I am sick of high school curriculum, but that's just me. It all depends on your major. Me, i want to major in languages, so gsp wouldn't work out well.
I understand that you're frustrated and I would be too, but make the best of whatever decision you make. everything happens for a reason...

If you have ANY second thoughts about GSP, forget it. There are plenty of others willing to take your place.

thanks everyone... i actually feel a little better. i probably will end up attending gsp if i dont get into ucla or berkeley (i dont have any more hope for the other colleges i applied to). the reason i'd rather attend ucla or berkeley is b/c their tuition is so much less and they are pretty good schools. i dont really believe in rankings but they are ranked much higher than nyu...

I do not believe that there was exactly a 1400 cutoff

(as in 1390 hell no this person is out) lol

but I do believe it was somewhere around there and definitely up there from the appr. score of 1300 from last year. I say this because one of my best friends with a 1300+ got referred to the GSP program

However there are exceptions as I know someone with a 1000 that got admitted to CAS (but that was HEOP)

Two of my friends got into GSP last year with 1300s and they are freshman in CAS right now. One got into CAS after high school graduation and one got into CAS the first week of NYU.
They realized that they were better students than they thought.
I guess it isn't necessary 2 years...
