my college guidance counselor recently told us, after speaking to our regional representative, that the average SAT score for CAS regular decision this year was a 1400 (old scale). how crazy is that?

it's wrong. Average sat score is around a 1310 old scale

Maybe this year was exceptional?

sorry- cutoff for acceptance was a 1400, not inlcuding gsp. thats a fact- maybe witht the exceptions of certain cases. but that is exactly what the nyu regional director told our college guidance

There's actually a cutoff for acceptance? Sheesh, I thought a 1400 cutoff was only for Stern. It's true then... NYU is getting a lot more selective!

"sorry- cutoff for acceptance was a 1400, not inlcuding gsp. thats a fact- maybe witht the exceptions of certain cases. but that is exactly what the nyu regional director told our college guidance"

i find that VERY hard to believe

exactly what i was going to say rs1324.. NYU isn't HYP, sorry to burst your bubbles diehldun.. maybe im just saying this because my SAT is below 1400 .. hahah

they wouldn't use a cutoff system like that, because not enough people apply with 1400 sat scores to fufill the freshman class. even if there were enough, not all of them would necesssarily accept the nyu offer.

it can't possibly mean anyone with lower than that SAT score is immediate referred to GSP or denied, can it?

I think NYU takes into consideration of special cases.

While there probably isn't a cutoff at 1400, it's possible the average SAT was just that. Great development, if you ask me. Hopefully we'll get bumped up a couple of slots on USNEWS.

lol my SATs are 1200. My chances of getting in 5 percent; But I still beleiveeeeeeee!!! :)

I go to a CT prep school and of the twenty kids who have applied to NYU in the past two years all the acceptances were from kids with SATs UNDER 1400...the one kid who had an SAT above 1400 and applied was denied, although i'm not sure to which school...
The average acceptance: SAT: 1310 GPA: 9.3/12
The kids below 1200 did not get it.
I'm not sure what schools everyone applied to, and I'm not sure if prep schools have it easier, but this is just to give everyone an idea.

two of my friends with 1390s were referred to gsp

I think that for certain schools (like Stern), you need to have a minimum SAT score to be seriously considered, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if 1400 (or 2100) is the minimum cut. Certainly Stern would look at others below that, but to be competitive...

"two of my friends with 1390s were referred to gsp"

Yeah. This years applicants must've been some bright lads.

A few kids from my school got into GSP. One had a 1240 ranked 17/450. one was a 1300 ranked 50/450 and the other had a 1330 64/450. It surely is an interesting sprinkling considering the higher stats of other people who got GSPed...

i wonder how they pick them, as it doesn't seem to be too score based

"two of my friends with 1390s were referred to gsp"

they both applied to CAS

if its not so much numbers now, i guess NYU has gotten much more subjective in terms of its admissions

yeah when i said the cutoff was a 1400, i meant for cas. it is hard to beleive, but i guess its a really competitive year.
