Hi,

Let's start a thread of people who are attending the Case Western PPSP interview on March 17-18! I will be.

I’ll be there. So stoked to meet everyone!
Any idea what types of events are gonna happen? I suppose there’ll be tours and stuff in addition to the interviews, right?
Do you think they are going to ask any bioethics questions, like a real med school interview would?

I hope I’ll be there. I’m having trouble convincing my parents to pay for the flight tickets, because I’m not 100% sure I would choose to go should I be accepted. I was already accepted to MIT, and I’m not sure I would choose Case over MIT. Were any of you guys accepted early? Which colleges would you choose over Case PPSP?

I’ll be there too! @matlas, right now Case’s PPSP is my first choice. I won’t be able to go to school out of state unless I make it into one of the med programs I applied to, and Case is the only one who I’ve heard favorable news from so far. I do have a pretty decent backup of USC with possible full ride though…

i will be at the interview weekend as well! im so excited to meet everyone! Case is an amazing school and PPSP is awesome as well! I wonder what the interviews will be like!

I’m coming! I’m pretty excited, actually, I’ve never visited Case before and it sounds like it should be pretty fun!

there’s a monitored (name tags worn so you can be judged) roundtable discussion complete with a professor as a proctor and an interesting article. not a medicine-related one.

the breakfast was good though. interviewers/program directors were friendly.

Hey celery, this is a kind of trivial question, but how formal were the events? Like is it supposed to be more of a casual college-tour kind of experience or more of a “You are being interviewed for MEDICAL SCHOOL” kind of experience? Basically, did people wear suits or jeans or somewhere in between? (That’s basically my question I guess: What should we wear??) :)

obviously im not celery, but i can almost guarantee that you should wear formal clothes (at the minimum dress pants, dress shirt, and tie) at any ba md program interview. definitely no jeans

Formal. Suit and everything.
I remember seeing one kid wearing jeans at the USC bacc/md interviews. Let’s just say it was an awkward day for him.

Thanks so much, guys.

i’m coming! see you all there!

celery, do you have any tips for the discussion? sounds kinda intimidating with the proctor and everything, haha

Don’t be nervous for the discussion or anything - they just want to see what your opinions are about certain topics (whatever they choose to give you). It’s definitely better to say something than nothing at all, especially when you have your nametags in front of you and they’re taking notes. Honestly, the proctors are so friendly, there’s no need to be nervous! Just speak your mind and be mindful of others :)

^thanks for the advice! the discussion is in addition to an interview too, right?
haha im so nervous

i excited to meet everyone in two days :)))

I am FREAKING out! Does anyone know the kinds of questions we could be asked (i hope no bioethics) and a roundtable…AHHH! I hope they realize that we are only high school students, no matter how mature we may be.

^ME TOO. haha is it sad that im breaking out in a sweat just thinking about the whole roundtable discussion?
do you guys know what kinda stuff we should bring for the overnight? like a sleeping bag?

^yup! I just called and they said we should bring a sleeping bag if we can, pillow, towels, etc. Whatever you need for staying overnight.

I can’t wait to visit cwru and meet everyone! I’m coming from CA, so the time difference is going to be hard cuz i heard the interview is like the first thing in the morning… but oh well. still so excited :)

oh, and also, apparently there’s permission slips. i didn’t know til i just called in to ask. it has to be signed by both u and ur parents if you want to stay overnight so don’t forget!

copy of the email i just got after calling:

Thank you for registering for an overnight stay with a Case Western Reserve University Spartan Ambassador!

This email is intended serve as a guide and checklist for the overnight process.

Before you arrive on campus for your overnight:
Please carefully review and complete the Overnight Visitation Policy and Release Form. This form must be completed and turned in during check-in; you will not be permitted to stay on campus without a completed form.

Please review and complete the Medical Release Form. This form will also be turned in at check-in.

Before your overnight stay, your host will email you to introduce himself/herself, exchange contact information with you and answer any questions that you may have.

Tips for an enjoyable overnight experience:
Please remember to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, blanket etc. as overnight student guests will be sleeping on the floor of a residence hall room.

Feel free to ask your host and/or other CWRU students any questions you may have about student life. This will be the best opportunity to gather that information for yourself as you will be part of the CWRU family for a night!
