*** Case Western Reserve Class of 2022 Applicants***

yes, case is #37 while rochester is #34 in national rankings

@lzpare so rochester is better??

That is essentially the same #34 and #37

@robotmachine according to the us world news and report rochester is slightly better

anyone hear back from the waitlist?

My D has not @rokooch

this school is ridiculous in how they play with these kids over the waitlist. My daughter was also accepted to the University of Rochester. Looks like we are going to stop playing this game and accept tonight
at an ethical college.

what is your son’s major. My daughter was accepted
to Rochester as well.

@zeus111 , in all fairness to any school, May 1st is the commitment day for everyone. I really wouldn’t expect any school to offer a student a spot on the waitlist before then. It could happen, but we are waiting for mid-May approx. to hear something from the 3 schools my girl is waitlisted at (Case, Cornell, and Georgetown). She is currently committed to Pitt and has a great situation there, and she likes that option just fine if that’s what happens. I realize CWRU said they could start accepting kids from the WL before May 1st, but that was just a maybe.

I empathize with your anger and aggravation. My D was deferred EA from Case, then waitlisted. I have said this before, but it’s crazy when I write that she attended an info. session at Case, then went back for an open house, then interviewed on campus, went to 2 different info. sessions at her hs in her jr. and sr. years, applied to 4 scholarships (more writing and insight into who she is), has a 5.1 weighted gpa now, and a 1500 sat. She even wrote a loci in addition to responding to their wl emails. I really really can relate to your feelings.

Best of luck to your D. Rochester is a great school. If she really wants to see if things will change at Case, I’d wait it out a few more weeks.

But the good thing is that Case does offer merit $ to the WL unlike other colleges

My son plans to major in mathematics. This is seriously frustrating! I think he is leaning toward Case over Rochester because it’s closer to home and he’d be the only one from his school going there. There financial aid package are pretty similar. His college counselor called the affiliations director and he said to keep checking emails and reply that he is still interested. Fingers crossed -i think that’s all we can do.

But he does love Rochester, so it won’t be horrible if he doesn’t get off the wait-list.

Nope. Son is still waitlisted. Accepted at Syracuse and signed. And, IF he gets in to CWRU, a big IF apparently, lol, we’ll lose $1400 in deposits we can’t afford to lose. 4 visits, 1540 SAT, 790 Math, High GPA, loads of extracurriculas, leadership, volunteering, AP’s, college classes, etc. But apparently, he’s just like the other thousands waitlisted (we were told 6,000 at last visit

Funny! Where we’re from!

I just turned down my acceptance offer from CWRU - unfortunately couldn’t afford it as they weren’t willing to give me more aid, and it did break my heart as CWRU was one of the schools I REALLY loved and wanted to attend but I’m hoping some of you get in off the waitlist as it is such a magnificent school

Based on last year’s situation, CWRU could start to move the WL files later this week and throughout the first couple of weeks of May. There is a thread titled "Case Western Reserve University WaItlist 2021 " (in page 5) and it has the kind of emails CW will use to communicate.

Couple of my S’s classmates are WL’d by CW. This seems to be norm this year. Acceptance rates have been plummeting across the board. Some schools have seen acceptance rate went from 28% to 19%, 35% to 29% or 26% to 21% between class of 2021 and 2022. All these schools are probably viewed as safety, backup schools for the high stats kiddos a year or two ago, but the game has changed. Now more than ever, these schools will accept fewer, and with the increase in uncertainty of yield, they will do more WL instead.

Our family got lucky in the sense that DS got in the schools he really liked, and was rejected by the rest he just throw in the hat to see what might happen.

My advice for CW class of 2023 applicants would be - Apply Early… esp. if you are high stats and really like the school, lock in with ED (some might say the school may not provide enough financial assistance, then what… but I think ED agreement is you will attend if they provide you the aid you seek… so for ED applicants, make sure the financial forms are there and ready to go)… CW has yet to use its ED list extensively like the other top schools, but with acceptance rate plummeting everywhere, no place is safe anymore, better to lock in places you like early.

CW’s EA round is very large, and historically, that’s the round the school will accept the most people. Again, don’t wait till RD to apply. I really think CW is increasingly tight with RD acceptances. They most likely will WL the kiddos instead.

In the past, CW has used the WL extensively to build the class, but there is no way to know what happen this cycle with so many kids being WL’d and fewer acceptances across the board. Maybe the kiddos who got the offer would lock in and commit earlier than past year. I did vaguely recall the 6000 figure on WL when we went to CW for the admitted student day. Six thousand may seem like a very large number, but if this is indeed true, it will be the smallest WL CW has since 2012-3. This potentially could be a reflection of a better yield from the EA/ED rounds or they just want to keep it realistic with the quality of WL candidates.

Good luck to everyone. We are extremely impressed by the surroundings and the offerings of the school.

Anyone know how many are in the waitlist? Has anyone been contacted yet?

@ambkeegan All you can do at this point is look at the historical number of people who accepted a place on the waitlist in Section C2 of the Common Data Set.

From 2016-2017:
Offered place on wait list: 9,293
Number accepting place on wait list: 4,732
Accepted from list: 333

In 15-16 it was 518/5,119 - 10%
In 14-15: 792/4670 - 17%

@ambkeegan , my D has not heard anything. Also, I believe @Mickey2Dad said when he was at an admitted student event that they mentioned 6,000 were offered a spot on the WL. Not sure how many accepted that offer. Or maybe 6,000 accepted a spot on the WL?

In case you haven’t seen today’s email, Case is not accepting students from the waitlist until after May 1st.

This whole process with Case has been nothing short of frustrating!!! My son has the grades, scores, extra curriculars, and has demonstrated a lot of interest. He was deferred in December and waitlisted in March. I understand that disappointment is part of the game, but he would’ve rather heard “no” than “maybe.”
Thankfully, he has a great second choice in U of Rochester - looking forward to the next four years!!!

@crabbymum Can you post the email on the CWRU Waitlist FAQs post for future readers?
