When does ea results come out?
According to their website, EA and ED1 notifications will get notification “by” December 15. http://admission.case.edu/apply/applicationinstructions.aspx
What is the difference between ‘waitlisted’ and ‘deferred’?
Yesterday CWRU admission tweeted that EA decisions released on Dec.15–not ‘by’ but ‘on’

@ames1998iq While I do think it is impossible for us to know why someone was not admitted, I also initially wondered how I felt about CWRU using “demonstrated interest” in the admission process. After thinking about this some, what seems clear to me is that many schools do this. Some by having really high application fees, required interviews, or basically telling folks to only apply ED if they want to get in.
For many financial reasons an applicant may not be able to apply ED, etc. My family liked that CWRU was free to apply to on the common app,
With such a huge number of applications from highly qualified candidates, it also makes sense that a university would want to enroll students who really want to be there. When my daughter and I visited, there were many signs of tremendous school spirit. My daughter loves CWRU, and I hope that in a few days our college search will be over.
From reading last year’s EA discussion, their system seems to mostly work- many of the “over qualified” candidates who were turned down, said they were not really interested in Case. However, it was also clear that a large number of “over qualified” applicants --who probably could have gone anywhere-- who were accepted, were really excited about it, and planned to enroll!
I wonder when ED1 decisions released.
I checked my status page and the menu bar was also gone.
@Guppie My understanding is that “deferred” just means no decision has been made yet and you’ll be considered again with the RD pool, as which point you might get admitted, or denied, or wait listed. Wait listed means you have neither been admitted nor denied, but can take the option of being part of the pool considered for admission after the school knows how many admitted kids plan to attend. If they still need to fill out the class at that point, they’ll select from the wait list pool according to what gaps they need to fill. Sometimes lots of waitlisted kids get later offers, sometimes none. Depends on the school and the year.
Thanks porcupine. Hmmm, would Case’s early action applicants get either deferred or wait-listed option? If so which option would have a higher chance to get in? If I ask this question in the other way, which category would admission office place somebody who didn’t quite get in a pool of ‘admitted’, deferred or waitlisted? I guess hard to say…? (Can you tell this is my first time going through this college application process?..).
Deferred would beat wait-listed. You still have the RD round to have your application considered. Wait -listed you have to wait until not only RD is done, but to see if the school has any open seats after all the accepted students decided to go to Case or not.
You do not get waitlisted ED, you are either admitted or deferred. If you are deferred a decision was made: you were not admitted ED. You will have to join the RD pool.
BTW, has anyone been getting a profuse amount of mail (snail mail) of CWRU brochures? My daughter seems to be getting 3-4 mailings/cards a week from various depts. and schools at CWRU. She likes getting them, but has already applied EA, seems a little redundant. Good luck to all on the 15th.
@nikos87 Case is trying to build an attachment with your daughter. If admitted she will be more likely to attend…or so they hope.
I think the three options for EA/ED are admit, defer or deny.
(RD, you’d get admit, waitlist or deny.)
Slightly different flavors of “not ready to make a decision about you.” The first (defer) is more “not ready to decide” the second (wait list) is more “we’d love to have you, but there’s no room, so we’ll see if something opens up.”
What really sucks is that I’ll be getting my decisions to CWRU and UChicago during finals… Time to die :((
Wait but they just tweeted that it could be on or before https://mobile.twitter.com/cwruadmission
I applied EA but I’m not really expecting to get in. My stats are average or maybe slightly below (can’t remember) and if they place as much emphasis on showing interest, then I’d be lacking in that department. Even though I live in Ohio we live about three hours away. My family doesn’t really have the funds or time to make a visit to a college I’ll probably get rejected from. I have emailed them a few times about my application, maybe that shows interest sort of? Not sure. I’m kind of hoping they either accept me or reject me, I don’t know if I could handle the torture of being deferred, if that makes any sense?
If the application is free, then some people will apply just because it is free. So to see the truly interested, they track your interest. It is no problem that you can’t visit the college before applications…many people can’t because they live too far away. But you can read emails, request an alumni interview, sign up for info ( you probably did to get those emails), go to any nearby info sessions, talk to someone at a nearby college fair, (if possible).
@porcupine98 Ty gl to you
@bopper is a college able to tell if we have read their emails?
