<p>My son was accepted with good stats. 34 act, good ec, class rank, grades, etc. I wonder how much your field of study enters into it? Son is NOT looking at engineering or science. Maybe it’s tougher to get into engineering, computer science at Case bc they have so many applicants for those fields? Good luck to all of you in your college search.</p>
<p>Decision: Waitlisted
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 1950 (630, 680, 640)
ACT: 28
SAT II: 640 Math 1, 660 Physics
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.66

IB (place score in parenthesis):
Senior Year Course Load: One AP, Five Honors
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): 5 year finalist at CT State Science fair with over 20 awards, International Genius Olympiad 3rd place,
Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Founder/Presiden of FTC Robotics Club
Job/Work Experience: Started my own comapny (LLC) to develop iPhone apps.
Volunteer/Community service: 100+ community service as part of Catholic school as an elementary school mentor.
Summer Activities: Launch a weather balloon camera to the edge of space (Startohab.blogspot.com)
Essays: Talked about how I am different and how wanting to be different inspired me to do the things i’m interested in.
Teacher Recommendation: Good. Honors math and Honors french teachers whom I’ve know for >2 years.
Counselor Rec: Not too bad.
Additional Rec: None
Interview: I did an interview with an alumni. I thought it went fine, but apparently it didn’t…
Other:
State (if domestic applicant): Connecticut
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: Jesuit Catholic
Ethnicity: White
Gender: M
Income Bracket: 150,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
Reflection:
Strengths: I think I wasn’t under-qualified, but somewhat overqualified in that Case knew I probably was not going to attend their school. They probably knew I was applying to some better schools and did not want to give an acceptance to someone who was never going to go there.
Weaknesses: Low level of interest.
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m not sure yet. Applied to CMU, RPI, Lehigh, Santa Clara, Villanova, Rochester, and Northeastern.
General Comments: I am completley surprised that I was reject at CWRU. It was my safety school. But then again, colleges will tend to reject high powered applicants if they know that they won’t attend. As you’ve seen here, most of the guys who were rejected had >2200 on their SAT. Meaning that they were more likely to go to Harvard than a safety school in a not-so-nice city. A classic case of “Tufts Syndrome”</p>
<p>^ What was your intended major?</p>
<p>I’m beginning to doubt myself too!!! Ivies+Northwestern = 0.00% possibility now!! :(</p>
<p>Also the fact that so many top applicants have been placed on the waitlist will make it tough to get through it, unless of course “many” don’t accept the waitlist!!</p>
<p>Anyone know how waitlist admits are looked at in terms of merit scholarship & need based aid??
I mean - few of the people who have received 20-25K scholarships have comparatively lower stats than those waitlisted. So if one of these highly qualified applicants was to accept the waitlist offer and then be accepted - What chance would he/she have of getting a scholarship??</p>
<p>@PresaD I’m undecided but on the common app, I believe that I put Computer science. I hope that did not matter in their decision. I thought that which intended major I chose wouldn’t have an effect on whether I would get accepted. I probably won’t go into Computer science, but like a combined Business and Engineering/Information Systems program. </p>
<p>If the reason for my wait-listed-ness was that I was an intended computer science major and their were just a ton of computer science applicants would be completely crass… Because they did not specify that I was applying to a specific program though.</p>

2. Lack of interest: I didn’t show any interest.
3. Test Scores: Compared to the other applicants, my test scores were average, and I have no AP scores.</p>
<p>[/ul]General Comments:
I got into my top choice already so in all honestly, I’m pretty happy.
Good luck to everyone!</p>
<p>@krca5942 That would be so awful! However, I wonder if the intended major is how they shape the class? There has been a rise in competition in computer science…maybe it had a small factor?</p>
<p>@rishav17 I honestly do not know, but my guess would be that the higher level scholarships go to the students already admitted. </p>
<p>I’m worried too! If I got in, does that indicate that my scores were “average” enough to not get into some other schools? However, I am so very grateful for the acceptance otherwise.</p>

<p>Comments: They are obviously trying to get their US News and World reports rank up. Making the application free allows them to reduce the acceptance rate, and the “interest is important” is kind of a cop out around the increase application numbers (That, and the email bombardment). To be fair, it was never my top choice, but I did do some of their online seminars. Apparently thats not interest enough.
Next few years, they will probably do the same thing (email bombardment, waitlist practically everyone) and their US News rank will probably rise in the next few years</p>
