Case Western vs. University of Rochester for Physics

Out of Case Western Reserve University and University of Rochester, which is better for studying Physics? Important factors I am considering are faculty, research on campus, facilities and percentage of students who go on to grad school in Physics…

Based on academics alone, it’s a toss up.

What about other factors like campus-life, class-size, research opportunities, grad school placements and financial aid (international students)?

Apply to both or some of the other schools you have researched on other threads and see who accepts you and is the best match. Similar schools in many ways, especially on the ones you have listed (both are small research universities in very cold climates that send a lot of kids to grad school). Financial aid to international students is something you should be able to figure out from your stats vs the mean, from the NPC, and their websites. They both give aid to students they want to attract.

Don’t worry about it right now…apply and see who accepts you and who gives you the most money.

For Case, check this out:

75% of CWRU physics graduates go on to graduate or professional school,

Apply to both

I would say Rochester is more well rounded academically, but they are very similar.

Two fine choices – your decision should be a matter of personal preference, finances etc… Very similar schools.

They’re both good schools.

Go visit if you can and talk to the physics department to get answers to these questions.

Both care about demonstrated interest. They also offer interviews I think.

In fact my daughter is applying to both.
