Caterpillars!!!!

Hi, so one of my friends visited Stanford and apparently caterpillars harass and terrorize the student population? can anyone confirm?

some rumors floating around are that caterpillars are highly poisonous and fall from the trees into hair/mouths when someone is biking and they swarm you when you sit down on benches!?

the class of 2021 is desperately searching for answers~~~~

I’ve lived near Stanford for over 20 years. Some years, hanging caterpillars appear in the spring. They are a minor annoyance and easily avoided. I run and bike daily and have never run into one, and they certainly don’t swarm. But you see them around, and I’ve heard that some people get a mild contact dermatitis if one crawls across their skin.

I grew up in upstate NY, and have lived all over the US. Let me say, if you don’t like bugs, Stanford is far preferable to the other elite institutions. We don’t have gnats, noseeums, black flies, or cockroaches. Minimal mosquitoes. You can picnic outdoors year round and barely be bothered by pests. Porches have no screens. There are never those irritating clouds of tiny things flying in front of your face that you get in the East. Forget about the caterpillars, trust me.

Yeah, I lived in many different places also, and CA in general doesn’t have as many flying insects. That’s one thing that I appreciate when I golf or walk in the evenings. You can cook and eat caterpillars if you ever get hungry and don’t have money, so they are not that bad. They are very nutritious. lol

There are times I’ve gone onto campus to see it overrun with caterpillars. It’s unsettling to say the least.

Visited Stanford for admit weekend this year. A caterpillar fell on my eye

Yes, some caterpillars are highly poisonous. Caterpillars and even many flying Pests like Stinging Pests like Bees, Hornets, Wasps, Yellow Jackets, Fleas, Mosquitoes, Webbing Clothes Moths, etc are harmful. Precautions should be taken to treat them as soon as one sees the signs that Pests have started Infestation. Either it is their Residential area or Commercial area. They need to take proper cure for it. My friend was struggling from Cockroach infestation in her home. She at first used Fluorescent spray for pest but it does not help much. She tried various things as well then finally as her Aunt told about Exterminator Greenwich CT at YalePest. She called the team and asked for her help. The Team Exterminated the Home and now it’s been very long, but the Home is still Pest Free.
