Some may think it's too early to worry about packing and stuff, but I like to plan ahead....way ahead. So, I thought I'd go ahead and ask about packing and stuff.

Any Tips/Suggestions regarding packing, sleeping, eating, etc. Thank you.

One of the best tips we received last year was to pack zip-lock bags that could hold clean, dry tee shirts and underwear that will be discussed in another thread, I'm sure. That way, when it rained at Lake Freddie, the new cadets would have dry underwear. Well, it didn't rain last summer and if I recall, you'll be at Buckner this summer, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Also, make sure you check with your local WP Parents' Club. They will likely sponsor a meeting before Beast where you can speak to cadets who just finished plebe year. They'll give you the best ideas.

Yep, as a guy who's going Infantry and has spent many rainy nights in a foxhole, the one gallon zip lock bags are a lifesaver, and tough to get at the CStore during beast. The packing list you should get from admissions covers a good deal of the other things you will need, but they literally give you everything you're going to need, so I wouldnt worry too much, unless you dont plan on going home or seeing family before Thanksgiving, in which case I'd pack some warm clothes so you're not that guy on the bus to the airport in shorts while there's a foot of snow on the ground.

That is correct momoftwins, there is no more Lake Frederick per say, however, from all I've heard, they will not be staying in the bays at Camp Buckner and will instead set up a similar operation like what has always happened that last week.

How limited is contact with the outside world during Beast? I realize that they want to keep you isolated, but is that policy absolute? A weekly mail call, weekly telephone privileges, anything? It sounds like we can get packages, judging by momoftwins advice.

No packages during Beast at all, only letters. First brief phone call after a week or two, then another chance to call at the half-way point. Some may get a call before going out to what was Frederick (but will now be at Camp Buckner).
