CC courses affecting UCB GPA?

If I take summer courses at a local junior college would it affect my UCB GPA ?

if you mean your UC gpa as calculated for admission purposes, yes; if you mean your college gpa after you matriculate to Cal, no.

wouldn't the grade you get at the community college only your berkeley gpa if you DECIDE to send your transcript to cal? I'm kinda confused about this too because I intend on taking a stats class this summer at my local junior college.

are you guys sure this pdf says "all technical courses required for the engineering major must be taken for a letter grade"

does that include calculus I?

http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/current_students/advising05-06.pdf#search='breadth%20classes%20for%20college%20of%20engineering%20berkeley'

dana;

negative -- the UCs will not add other college grades to the UC gpa - you earn class credit only, but it is not figured into your gpa

wait, what about for me? since calc is lower division requirements course shouldn't that "transfer" course be calculated in my gpa?

Ok, I'm not goin to UCB (UCLA :) baby) but I have a similar question. I know the transferable classes don't get counted on your unveristy GPA. My question is, would medical schools count that GPA (like let's say you took Gen. Chem and Calculus @ a JC)?

I think as long as you don't send in the transcript to UC or anywhere, you will be the only one who knows that you took the course at CC.

no, no, a thousand times no. Cal will not change its gpa to add in cc classes, even if they are required. The cc classes go on the transcript like a 'pass'.

but if you dont send in the transcript, UC wont know about it, correct?

Of course, the UC won't know about it. But if you listed college classes on your UC app, then you're obligated to send the transcripts or else your admissions gets rescinded.

okay its a settled fact ! so it's a good deal to take an equivalent of english r1a and math1a in a jc over the summer?

Is there an equivalent to English R1A?

You need to use www.assist.org to figure out which classes transfer what.

No it won't.

Hey, I'm going to CAL in the Spring. Do I have to take a full courseload at a Community College during fall or can I just take a few classes? THose grades don't count but it just goes to credit right?

CallmeLouis: No, you don't have to take a full courseload at CCC during fall and your grades won't transfer. However, do know that you may not graduate in 4 years if you don't do a full load that is transferable to Cal.

Use www.assist.org for figuring out which courses are transferable.

One thing to consider: While CC courses do NOT affect your Cal GPA, the grades you earn in them are counted by grad/law schools later on, and your GPA is recalculated. So, the B that my S earned by taking French I at our community college in 8th grade (and the B's in German in 9th and 10th grades), will bring down his Berkeley GPA when he applies to law schools in three years. I'm not sure if the grad/law/med schools take into account that you are a high school student while taking college classes or if they just see the grades and recaculate the GPAs. (Hopefully, the former.)
