I went to a CC in 2006 and was pretty half hearted. As a result I got:

4 W's
MIcro econ-A
Macro econ-B
College alg-A
Acct 1- F (ouch!)

Eng1 & Eng2-B
Psych 1- C
Chem 10-B
Philo intro- B

Now, after going back to school in 2011 for summer, fall, and this winter:

Acct 1-A
Math 2-A
Psych2-A
Bus 1-A
Acct 2-A

My GPA is 3.5 right now and with 70 units, assuming all A's, I should have 3.67 by the end of spring. Being the screw-up that I am, I did not take any SAT's or ACT exams.

What are my chances for UCLA as business/econ? Also, what can I do outside of getting A's that will improve my chances?

I have 4 years of sales experience and owned my own contracting business for a year.I'm also going to be working as a contractor while going to school. I appreciate any input!

Sounds like you have pretty good ECs–good job on that front.

I wouldn’t apply to UCLA as a BizEcon major with anything less than a 3.90 or maybe a 3.80. Sorry, but it’s a very competitive major. Straight Econ is almost as difficult to be admitted into. . . . If you’re really set on Econ, you might want to consider a school lower on the totem pole than UCLA, or apply to UCLA as something like a Math/Econ major: the average admitted GPA is much lower. (To see these statistics, see here: [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2011 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof11_mjr.htm))

UC’s do not take spring grades into consideration.

Your GPA is very low for UCLA. (3.93 avg gpa admittance, 16 percent admit rate for 2011)

However, considering your fairly unique situation, your chances could be decent if you managed to write an amazing personal statement that somehow resonated with admissions.

By the way, I hope you applied to other schools.

In addition to what the above said, UCs don’t look at SAT/ACT for transfers

I’m also considering USC, but I haven’t applied to any schools yet. I realize that my grades in the past will haunt me a little longer so I’m applying this fall. That being said, would spring be taken into consideration?

I’m a very optimistic guy and I’m willing to do whatever it takes. Thanks for the comments guys!

Thanks for that link. It’s very useful. I know I may not have good chances but I just need the best chances I can have to apply.

Edit:Just saw the numbers for math/econ. Definitely looks more promising than buz/econ, but would the business classes i’ve taken and my switch in majors been seen as a lack of commitment?

please be aware of what math/econ is. It is not regular economics. It’s the “Caltech” of economics. It’s very math heavy. You have to take Calc I, II, and III, diff equations, and linear algebra.

If you don’t think this will be a fun midterm, then I wouldn’t major in math econ.
