What do you mean by the top 25? Are you thinking prestigious universities, (HYPS), top LACs, top state schools, religious institutions, top schools for engineering, English, biology, history.... I can't answer until I know what you're aiming for.

For a vague answer, my heart sank when I saw the unweighted GPA. And at the "top schools" that I'm thinking of, 700 on each section is borderline minimum. But I still don't know what the criteria for your top 25 is (everyone's is different, you see, because everyone needs something different from their university experience).

How could your heart sink after seeing his GPA? A 3.75 is a frickin B+/A- at most schools. A gpa like that would make him competitive even for top 25 schools like HYP. Maybe he goes to a tough high school. But yeah dude, you're pretty much the average CCer.

I think he actually is a below average cc'er for one reason: his EC's don't really stand out. They seem not very special. For hyps I mean. I don't see him getting into hyps or even some of the lower ivies, but I think he's good for most of the top 25 schools. That's about as specific as I'm going to get :p

The sort of people who apply to HYP cry over an A- that brings their entire transcript down. They would enter a mental institution for a B, commit suicide because of a C. I'm one of those people: 4.67 weighted, 4.0 unweighted. I was sobbing my heart out last year because I found out I was #2 in my class. I'm pathetic. So I actually envy zh0u for being sane, but unfortunately well-adjusted people with decent grades have difficulty getting into the prestigious schools. Ditto to celebrian25, even though we had a spat about my own stats, I think zh0u can get into a list of very respectable schools, but HYPS might not be part of it.

research is about samples obtained from moon craters ..we're finding the Th (Thorium) concentration to determine a wide range of things about core temp and other things.. etc. It's quite a bit of work and my professor said he would write me a rec.

Yea, my school is very very competetive. People are retaking 2300s and stuff there. Class size: Around 1000.
