CC Meeting during Parents weekend

Many of us will want to commiserate with each other after PPW

I guess I don't understand that comment. I felt so good about the Academy standing there watching evening formation on Sunday night. We had just met the academic year roommate and parents. Taken lots of pictures on the yard. But most of all had a very rejuvenated Midn who had no hesitation about rejoining his friends, shipmates and even Cadre. Excited about classes starting in a week, getting his computer, and having his phone back, if not that weekend then during the week. Total peace of mind. I remember that he called around Thursday after PPW, he had his computer, had changed to his academic year room, bought all of his books and supplies and sounded so happy. He said "Mom, its complete, I also feel like a college student too!" What more could a parent hope for...

IMO if you meet on Sunday night make it a celebration...You made it, your Mid made it and you have met some incredible people that you will come to rely on for the next 4 years by the bay. Toast your Kids - they are 1/3 through the Naval Academy. They have another tough 1/3 to go but they are well on their way to becoming incredible Adults.

Cheers to the Class of 2012 Parents!

I will second profmom to make it a night of celebration!

Although truth be told, I cried like a baby when, after having our Plebe in his nice white uniform and cover, had to line up again right back in working whites - all of them, put right back in their place. I remember each company reporting "all present and accounted for"... except for one at the other side of T-Court... and I started balling my eyes out I was so proud of each and every one of them!!!!! I figured that by that time they knew what awaited them, and 99.9% of them came back. I had a lump in my throat the size of a golf ball....and the silence around T-court was deafening. While I-Day was a proud moment, I thought my chest would bust. The waterworks lasted half way up the Jersey turnpike, truth be told. Happy tears, proud tears, "cry me a river." And lots of blood-shot eyes around me too!!!

I remember the parents lingering about long after T-court was emptied of uniforms, as if not sure what to do next. So raising a toast to those that return "for more" seems fitting....at least it will give the parents a destination!

The CC folks met up at the Severin Inn.... it was lovely, and at least we got to see the academy come alive with all the lights. It let us linger just a little bit more before heading home!

tearing up just reading your post Navy2010!! I can't wait! So can are we meeting at Severn Inn after the formation is over on Sunday?

Some of us are going to meet at the Parents' Forum in Alumni Hall Friday morning before we get our Plebes.

I'm glad a lot of people are latching on to this idea. I'll be around that weekend, but I don't want to interrupt the parent's time with their plebes (plus I don't want to scare the plebes off being a 2/c). That is a time for relaxation and celebration. There really are 3 parts to your career at the Naval Academy: Plebe Summer, Plebe Year, and then the rest of your time. So, congratulations to all the parents and their plebes so far for a job well done.

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about the plebes this year, but I'll tell you that they look like they're working just as hard. Time changes, and people change, but there's one thing that never does at the Academy. You're always exhausted. There are 3 sure things in life: death, taxes, and being subject to the everyday "grind" when you're at the Academy. It looks like this year's plebes are fitting the bill.

I hope everyone enjoys this short time off with their plebes. This will be more time than your plebes will know what to do with, but I'm sure they won't complain.

LOL!!!
would love to, but will be heading down to the "2C" weekend (which, I understand, we will be sharing with the 1C parents!! ;) )...
anyway, if you are down then, why not!

"the more the merrier"
(but i may have a date for one nite.... ;) )

so here is a chuckle for the day.
Go to I-day. Me and a whole host of family.
Pack tissues for everyone. A huge box for me.
Came back and posted how I was soooo good..."shed not one tear" i said.
Jamzmom says "liar, liar, pants on fire!!!"
I assure her..."nope, not one tear!!!!"

fast forward to PPW.
Arrive alumni hall for supes reception.
get there early for a "good seat."
me and a "few" family this time round.
Watch the slide show on the huge screens while we "hurry up and wait."
and there it is
My mug- on the screen- from I-Day- a river of tears rolling down my face.
Not on one screen, but on 3.
3 huge screens with me a-cryin.
Had to eat some crow with Jamzmom.
"no apology necessary~ I understand perfectly."
:o

Wondering why it took so long for you to become a part of this thread; I know this one is custom made for you!
I've been trying to cover your [Severn Inn] and my [Galway Bay] bases in Annapolis. Now you can take over.

Have a date for one nite? I thought I was on the schedule. Even though you should NOT even be there on that weekend. Don't be a hog over the seats this year at the Supt's brief. [Well, actually, you can probably have my seats, I don't think we are going; I've heard enough of how great he is, how great we are, how great the mids are, how great everybody is. But, who knows?]

Anyway, just bought my stadium parking pass for the Rutgers game.
Hotel room is booked. [Good thing since what are there? 3 reunions plus the two parent-classes in town.] Galway Bay is looking better and better.

LOL!!!
what can I say.... had a few distractions lately........

so my sailor son takes the boat out the other day- gets out into the harbor and starts to "overheat"... so turns the engine off, throws out the anchor, calls for a tow, and leaves the boat on the dock (the wrong end mind you) for the mechanic to come and take a look.

Mechanic comes - gets the boat restarted- but wants to change out the thermostat- so we leave the boat on the dock (on the correct end) overnight for a repair today.

Son gets up - sees the boat on the dock (says "great, don't have to row to the mooring").... and takes the boat out with a few of his friends. Only the mechanic has not come yet.

Mechanic arrives. "Where's the boat" he asks.
"How do I know- I left it on the dock"
"Well it either broke away, sailed away or sunk- your pick- cause it ain't here now!"

Just a mere second or two later....
call from said sailor son.
"I'm stuck."
"are you!"
"yeah."
"Where are you?"
"In the sound."
"Great."
"I threw out the anchor."
"Great."
"I'm calling for a tow."
"Terrific."
"I think I overheated- I saw smoke so shut down the engine."
"Wonderful."
"I'll be in soon."
"Can't Wait." (till I get my hands around your neck!!!!)

so heading home now to see if we can even restart the thing- smoke is never a good sign.... wondering why the alarm did not engage.... and hoping we still have an engine to start.

Thinking SWO might not be such a good option.
