Well, I'm not going to be doing much during Welcome Week, so I'm seeing if CCers here are interested in getting together, hanging out, meeting some new people. I'll try to get more details if enough people are interested.

i'm down......

sounds good to me :)

I'm in, though I might be doing some Welcome Week stuff just because I didn't get the chance to do much as a spring transfer.

was there ever a meeting last year?

I might be frantically trying to find a target-like store that is actually in Berkeley where I can buy some dorm supplies buuut otherwise, ok.

No, not really.

Where are all the CCers hiding? Maybe I should have put more pizazz into the title and added a few exclamation marks or something.

haha when?

Definitely sounds interesting. The infamous vicissitudes in person. :P

so...what is the "criteria" to be allowed at this meeting? for example, one must have a username or something like that? cause i know a couple people who don't post here or have a username but visit this site frequently

oh yes...seeing vicissitudes in person...that's gonna be like meeting God

I'm down. I heard a lot of the Welcome Week stuff is pointless anyway.

sure.

i hate to sound like a stalker but i already found you on facebook, vicissitudes.

caffe strada?

vicissitudes it's up to you bro, wherever whenever.

Uhh...I haven't thought of that. No criteria, really. It's definitely more fun to see all the "CC personalities" in person, but they're certainly welcome to come if they want.

I think the only things worth going to are Chancellor's reception, Convocation, and maaybe Calapalooza.

Uhh...I'm not gonna lie, that scares me a little. :)

Anyway, I looked up some welcome week events on their website. I wish they would post more stuff (it says they'll be posted in mid-August) because I'd like to attend one of those research workshops. Anyway, this is what it looks like so far:

August 18: move-in day
August 19: move-in day
August 20: 8-12 mandatory FPF orientation, 3:45 - 6 (convocation)
August 21: 4-5:30 chancellor's reception
August 22: various times, colleges/major orientations
August 23: 11-2, Calapolooza
August 24-25: CalTopia

I was thinking either getting lunch somewhere or going to a cafe (like cafe strada) in the afternoon or something. Doesn't look like 18-20th will work. People might want to go to orientations on the 22nd (sounds pretty useless to me). So it looks like our options are:

August 21st, sometime between 12-3
August 23rd, after 2
August 25th, anytime (you'll get sick of CalTopia after the first day)

Right now I'm leaning towards the first two. 25th is only two days from school and I need to get textbooks.

So why don't we do this? I'll start a roster and if you want to come, add yourself and say what time's good for you, and if you prefer lunch or cafe.

CC Meeting
vicissitudes

Time: 21st or 23rd are both good for me.
Venue: lunch or cafe both work.

By the way, feel free to suggest other possible times and places to meet. I'm open to ideas. My beef with Cafe Strada is that it always seems so crowded.

Also, I remember last year we tried getting a meeting together. We said something like "3:30 - 5:00" at Cafe Strada. Problem is, I had no idea what any of the other CCers looks like, so when I got there I didn't know if anyone from CC actually showed up. So I was thinking maybe I could make a huge sign that says "CollegeConfidential" and just carry it around. Hmm. Actually, forget it. That sounds stupid. So yeah, suggest something to do about this.

For:
August 20: 8-12 mandatory FPF orientation, 3:45 - 6 (convocation)

What is FPF? Would I be considered one (freshmen undergrad)?

FPF = Fall Program for Freshmen. It's for spring admits. Since you have no idea what it is, you are not in FPF.

CC Meeting
vicissitudes
commonsense

Time: Anything after Aug 22 should be fine.
Venue: Anything works for me.

And wouldn't it be so cool if sakky showed up! :)

21st or any day after the 23rd... lol.

CC Meeting
vicissitudes [21 or 23, lunch or cafe]
commonsense [22 or later, anything]
System-AX [21 or 23 or later]
undecided [anytime, cafe]

I live here and my boss is in LA until the 27th, so whenever is fine for me. I would recommend against picking a busy time (12-2, 5-7), but any of the cafes over on Durant, Caffe Strada, or the Starbucks or Peet's over on Shattuck are probably a good idea -- those have room and access to things we can hold onto while we talk so we're not all awkwardly twiddling our thumbs or anything. XD

As for how to pick out CCers... short of holding signs, I suppose someone could scope out the meeting place prior to the meeting, once it's picked out, and stake out a portion of the place and have everyone meet there. Wear blue or something. :P
