CC Poll: How Many Colleges Did You Apply To?

Rollins College
U Miami
UCSD
UCSB
Ohio State
Indiana
Texas A&M

i got sick of the apps after the 5th one, can't imagine doing 12..

Anyone who applied to more than 8 schools has severe issues.

I could never see myself blowing $500+ in application fees. Plus, I'd feel incredibly selfish for taking up the slots and never fulfilling them (and therefore excluding students who had x school as their top choice).

I can see the fun in applying to few Ivies, but applying to every single elite college in the country is utter bull#%!@.

People become deluded with prestige and it makes my stomach churn.

volleyforlife, if you want chances, go to the What Are My Chances forum and make a new thread. Don't hijack this thread.

I applied to 7 UCs.

UCLA
UCB
UCSD
UCD
UCSB
UCR
UCSC

6.
1 safety
2 matches
3 reaches

Eight // 8

4 ^_^

Thank god for EA, or I would've had 11 -_-

6 accepted (safeties/matches), 4 still waiting...

4 reaches
3 matches
1 safety

And everyone here looks at me like that's a lot. haha. My guidance counselor about choked when I wanted her to send school reports and transcripts to 8 schools....sooo many copies.

And I'm glad it's over. Application fees really add up, huh?

8 (probably 9- it was going to be 10, though)

4 reaches
5 matches
(i already got into a match school, so i dropped my "safeties")...

I am curious what the effect will be of many many people (a record number) applying to a large (over 10, 15) of schools. Each applicant can pick only one school.

Let's say you have a pretty strong applicant, who applies to 15 schools, and gets an acceptance to 10-12 of them. Applicant picks one. the other 14 schools used up an acceptance for that applicant and their final yield went...down, right?

Any (math) wizards out there who can speak or speculate on this?

Wonder when we are going to get a 2007/08 poll to see what happened for this year?

D applied to 9 with these results so far:
5 accepted
1 deferred but not completing decision I additional info so count as denied
3 decisions pending

For her it was a matter of applying to different schools for different reasons and she will narrow down when she knows exactly where she has been accepted and what the offerings are.

Do we know in fact that it was a record number that applied to 10 plus schools? How do we know that is not something that has been going on for a while?

"it's lucky, right?"

let me clarify my stmt: this year is a record number of applicants to college in the us of a.

I noticed in the informal cc pol that a heckuva alot, or portion, at also applying to a double digit number of schools. Extrapolating, I would think this year is the greatest number of total apps out there.

5....
1 safety, 1 match, 2- mid reaches, 1 reach

and I've already been accepted to the safety and the match

booklet, do you have the final price you will have to pay for each?

well.... i qualified for fee waivers...

but had i not? it would have been $105.... ( Brandeis lets you apply for free online)

Why?

Actually, I meant how much for the cost of one year of college, cost of attendance, books, fees, tuition.

The next question to you would be: is this COA price something that you (plural) are ok with, was expecting and are prepared for?

I have seen noted everywhere that we are supposed to 'ignore the sticker price'. At the pre-application phase, we have to use such cumbersome methods as assessing an institution's percent of students who receive FA, percent from merit, percent from need, and the avg loan amt after graduation.

My contention is that one reason one might apply to more, rather than to less, colleges, is because the price is not readily transparent.

Oh.. no I don't have that yet. I won't know until the FAFSA goes out, hopefully by te end of this week.

My parents told me 1. You need to apply to Rutgers, since that is the state school and therefore moderatly affordable
2. You can apply to whatever other schools you like ( within reasonable numbers of course)
3. But at the end of the day, where you go will be determined by the numbers.

I think that's pretty fair. I wouldn't have applied to any of the schools if I didn't think that I could be happy there, and if I decide that I really do not want to attend one, then obvously I won't...

So I'm not ignoring the sticker price... I'm just puttng the whole discussion on hold for now.

14 Schools (Fee-Waiver. Otherwise it probably would have been like 7 or 8)

6 Reaches
4 Matches
4 Safeties

Deferred at Reach, Accepted to 3 safeties so far
