The weather's great and there's been a lot of people gathering on the steps lately, so in light of these factors - I'm flipping over a new leaf.

So to all the pre-froshies out there, I welcome you to pose any and all questions. They can be about anything you guys can possibly want to ask (e.g. parties, clubs, hook-up/dating, internships, graduate schools etc.).

The one thing that you will all learn at Columbia is that 90% of success is early-planning and anticipating your trajectory. As they say, "To be forewarned, is to be forearmed".

So let's hear it, what do you want to know about how to get the most out of the next four years?

I’m a high school junior that very interested in Columbia

Have you ever gotten bored at Columbia or does NYC give you constant excitement?

What is your aid like?(based on your financial situation)

Is the school food good?

Was the college experience good? Were the people social or was everyone doing their own thing?

How is premed at Columbia?

The intro bio course is supposedly a weeder. How are other courses? Would the median grade be around a B/B+ or B+/A-?

How does it compare with other schools? How is premed advising?

How is placement to top med schools?

Thank you.

Thanks for doing this! My questions all pertain to CC.

How is the workload? (i.e. How much time do you typically spend studying each day/week?)

Are people really cutthroat or more cooperative?

Is it difficult to maintain a high GPA?

What kind of jobs do first-years typically do in order to satisfy the “student employment” section of Columbia’s financial aid? I’m looking to get some kind of a job in a scientific research lab - do many students do that?

Thanks so much!

My questions are geared toward SEAS.

What are the requirements for getting into the operations research & financial engineering program? How many people each year do this?

How is job placement coming out of financial engineering? Are non-finance jobs an option?

How is work/life balance for engineering students (are they still able to have a social life?)?

And since the housing app is due soon, which do you recommend: Carman, John Jay, Furnald, or Hartley/Wallach?

Thanks a lot for doing this!

Do you have any knowledge about the financial economics major (a pretty new major, repalcing the old “economic - information science” major) and/or about the computer science concentration?

Thank you.
