Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums and I would just like some input on my chances of getting into UPenn. I'm currently attending a community college in the Biological Sciences degree. Upenn, undoubtedly, has amazing science programs available and would really help me get my foot out the door. My highschool records aren't great at all, but I showed vast improvement in college. Any suggestions would be helpful. Here are my stats:

Highschool:
GPA: 2.5
SAT: 1040

Community College:
Degree: Biological Sciences
Current GPA: 3.9
Credits: 30
Important Classes:
Honors Colloqium (A)
Honors English (A)
Honors Geography (A)
Biology 1 (A)
Chemisty 1 (A)
CALC 1 (A)

Extra Curricular Activities (during college):
Phi Theta Kappa (National Honor Society)
Honors Program @ College
Honors Club
Several hours of volunteering
Peer Mentoring
Student Government

Recommendations:
I can get solid recommendations from my BIO professor and ENG professor.

Honestly..poor chances. Great job with the improvements, but you're a CC student with no hook competing for spots that have a <10% acceptance rate.

I dont think you have a shot(HS record is poor and so are SATs) remember tho you have show extrodinary growth 1 year of college wont suffice for 4 years of bad HS grades...you will have a better shot if you wait and transfer in as a junior ...sorry good luck tho

from the looks of it youre on the right track. but like the other posters said it might be too early to apply to a higher ranked institution. personally i would still give it a shot but if you dont get it now then theres always another chance to apply after you have more credits under your belt. i mean what do you have to lose (besides an application fee)? if anything the more you apply the more it might show the institution how badly you want to attend.

there are a million hooks that people could use.

Hooks: Native American, Eskimo, Republic of Congo, or some unrepresented ethnicity/race; athletic recruit; parents are donors; "legacy," although this one doesnt work for the ivies anymore; cured some disease; etc.
