Looking to transfer from Community College

Hey everyone,

I recently posted something on transferring to an ivy league, but got hit with the reality that it is going to be incredibly unlikely. With my new found knowledge, I'm moving forward to make decision to transfer to a liberal arts school. Currently, I attend a community college and I should be considered to be in my first semester of sophomore year, going into this semester with 30 credits. I need some suggestions as to where to transfer to and if my list is viable given my grades and EC. Also, when would be a good time to apply/transfer? Any help would be appreciated.

Highschool:
GPA: ~2.5
SAT: 1040

Community College:
Degree: Biological Sciences
Current GPA: 3.9
Credits: 30
Important Classes:
Honors Colloquium (A)
Honors English (A)
Honors Geography (A)
Biology 1 (A)
Chemisty 1 (A)
CALC 1 (A)

Extra Curricular Activities (during college):
Phi Theta Kappa (National Honor Society)
Honors Program @ College (free tuition)
Honors Club
Several hours of volunteering
Peer Mentoring
Student Government
Intramural Indoor Soccer
~ 1 year violin

Recommendations:
I can get solid recommendations from my BIOL and ENG professor and my honors adviser, if needed.

The schools I would like to transfer to are: (In a sort-of ordered list by fav)
Bucknell
Franklin & Marshall
Lehigh
Gettysburg
Scranton
Muhlenburg

Lehigh and Bucknell are probably out of the picture. You can try, but your SAT scores will seriously hurt you.

Muhlenberg, F&M, and Scranton are most likely, and you have a decent shot a Gettysburg.

It seems like you have a thing for PA. I'd add a few more safeties. Maybe Susquehanna or Ursinus? Allegheny? What's your major?

Would retaking the SAT's help, if it's even possible? And yeah, I live in PA, so I would very much like to go to school here.

My major is biochemistry.

Yes.

(10 char)

bump any other help?

If you are transferring into a 4 year after obtaining a 2 years AA, I don't think SAT means much to the colleges you are applying to. You are not applying as a freshman but as a transfer student. I would look into the web pages of the colleges you are interested in and see what their criteria and policies are for transfers students from community colleges. Your grades are good so that will help you.

Possibly. I know that some schools really consider SATs with transfer students and others don't.

All I know for sure is that highly selective schools like Bucknell are going to want the strongest background possible. I'd call the admissions office at each school for advice on what to do in your position.

Shodan is right. If you don't get in this yr, do another of CC and most schools won't care about your hs/SATs.

Alright, thanks.

you pwn'd cc so there's a pretty good chance that schools will overlook your scores. they are in the past after all. go for it. a relatively low SAT don't mean much when u got a 3.9 from cc
