Did you have any?

I currently have one for Biology. He ain't that boring, but exams suck. 25-ish items, confusing choice of words for questions, around 20 are legitimate trick questions. All in 45 minutes.

Those are the worst! Most of em were for classes that weren’t even major pre-requisites though.

Yeah that’s why I avoid taking instructors with below a 3.5 easiness rating on ratemyprofessor.

Yep had that happen. My first semester, I registered late so there was only one Calc 1 teacher left. His class had ~30 students to start with only 7 people made it to the end. 2 B’s, 3 C’s, and 2 D’s according to Pick-a-Prof. I was the only person who passed that hadn’t taken AP Calc in High School.

^ Hmm, this is the first time I’ve ever heard of pickaprof. Is it good or should I just save money and stick with ratemyprof?

Hahaha more than you think. We have this one reaaaally old physics professor who I hear makes insane tests and never curves. Last semester only one person got an A, the other got an 86. Students complain but he’s been with the school FOREVER and he’s the department chair. Not to mention the only one who taught calc-based physics during the regular semesters. Wt f, right.

@Cupertinotransfr:
Pick-a-Prof turned into myEdu. It shows you a professors drop rate, grade distribution, and course load for any class. It costs 20$ a year to search for this information so I’d say it’s worth it.

My sister had a Calculus professor who was horrible just last semester. She’s re-taking it again (she dropped) this upcoming fall. He told the class that it would be his last year teaching because the students “apparently” don’t seem interested. Out of the 40 students in the beginning, only seven made it to the final exam, and not one of those seven got higher than an F.

He didn’t even grade the final exam, he turned in grades that afternoon. That’s how crappy he was. Be on the lookout definitely. =/

I had an anthro prof whose tests were near impossible. 150 pt tests, and the highest scores were always around a 110-112 (very low C’s), but grades on a bell curve so i got an A. That being said, he was an excellent guy and one of my favorite classes at CC.

He taught at UCLA as a grad student i think, and gives similar tests.

My experience in CCC so far is that either they will be really hard or really easy. like some teachers are just super easy to get an A in, you can turn in crap papers, that they don’t read. and others will give a C on a paper with a few mistakes. i already searched ratemyprof for my fall classes, every single teacher has a good rating so i’m thinking that this fall should be a good semester. you should try doing the same, though i know it can be hard to pick only teachers that have good ratings because of your work schedule/other obligations, but i don’t work so i guess i’m lucky enough to do this.

If a teacher is being unusually tough, drop the class, don’t think twice about it.

If they ever say something like “only 3 people in this class will get an A” Laugh loudly, get up, head straight to admissions and records and change your schedule on the spot.

haha yes, i have had those kind of teachers.
my macroeconomics teacher said “only two or three of you will receive an A in this class” to 60 people. i was like “oh crap.” surprisingly, I was one of those lucky As!
In another class, a prof who is infamous for giving bad grades was teaching it, but i HAD to take this class for my major, so i didn’t have any choice at all. he clearly said that it is highly unlikely that anyone will get an A in his class. that jerk gave me an A-, even though i got a 100% on the final (i emailed him asking him whats up with that)

Damn. There’s no turning back now. Either a W or a B at max. If ever there’s no one that will get an A, I’m taking it to the dean.

I mean come on, 3 mistakes in an exam = B? That’s absurd. Right now I’m not particularly worried, but I’m getting my complaint ready just in case.

Lucyc66,

Was it Derek Milne at Pasadena City?

He’s da bomb!

No, haha.

It was John Denman, who teaches at a bunch of CC’s.

@RheeL3

So this prof failed every single person in the class? Not a single person got credit for that class? That seems ridiculous.
