CCC to UC or CSU prior to Dental School?

Hello all, this I have two favorite sites for school, this site and studentdoctors. You guys are great.

Anyways, I am 22, I attend a CCC and i am done with my GE, I am workin on my undergrad lower science courses at CCC. My goal is to get to Dental School - preferably UOP which is in SAN FRANCISCO, so with it being a pre-professional program in SF, you know the cost of expenses is going to be dramatically high, which brings me to my question,

should I just transfer to a CSU (ideally - SF State or CSU Eastbay) and save money that way then go to take out loans @ UOP or should I just do it fullspeed and go to a UC (ideally Davis)?

Davis is good because it's a research school, but hours of research alone won't do me much of a help to get into Dental School, but of course it is a plus.

Please let me know. Maybe some of those CSU alumni's can influence me.

I think anywhere is fine as long as you do WELL. I wouldn’t just be aiming at one school either especially at a California school. Also UOP is the only 3 year dental program so that makes it extra competitive.

Dental school is expensive (350k+) so undergrad tuition is something to thing about.
You want to go to the cheapest school possible. I would recommend that. Forget the prestige. I would choose the route that would lead to zero debt after undergrad. I think as long as you go to a reputable school (which all the CSU are) than you will be fine. Just don’t go to uni of phoenix or something.

thats some very dope advice, i suspected the same about the cheapest undergrad.

i am 22 with a very broke and poor mother, im black/jewish/japanese. do you think UC’s will want to make a success story out of me and give me alot of financial aid? ha.

but im probably going to stick with just CSU eastbay - well Bay Area CSU’s in general.

appreciate the response, it was just what i needed.

Financial Aid will depend on your family income. If you qualify, then you could probably go to the UC’s for cheap. You will probably get your tuition covered and a majority of the housing/living expenses covered. My brother only pays 5k on top of his financial aid for UCLA. If you do qualify, then I would consider going to a UC.

its only me and my mother, she is on unemployment, well it just recently ran out, so our family income is…0 technically.

Remember to due your FAFSA. Its due March 2nd.

umm, sadly it won’t apply for me. im tagging for acceptance of fall 2012, i missed the fall 2011 go around, i wasnt rolling with your guys yet, i came exactly on this board and started browsing December 1st, one day too late. I had never been on this site November 30th and prior.

my great effing luck.

^ You still should do your FAFSA while at a CCC! With your situation you are passing up free money from the gov. Apply ASAP

ALSO sadly, i have exceeded the attempted/completed 90 units max my school has where you can’t get financial aid.

im in a very complicated situation.

sorry mypinkfriday for sort fo takig over your thread but I’m also considering a post-secondary education after udergrad.

Anyways,I was wondering if I should attend UC Santa Cruz to complete my pre-med/pre-pharmacy(I am leaning more into pharmacy school) so that I could get admitted at graduate/med schools schools like UCSF,UCSD,UCLA,or Texas A&M?

^no problem, if its all in the similar question.

i was going to do pharmacy myself, but heard that the profession is dwindling. Do you go on SDN?

@ mypinkfriday: well I’m not really sure if I want to do pharmacy school since I have seen that the job market is going to drug stores that are connected with Wal-Mart and Walgreens,so I’m sort of lost of what profession I should seek.Med school is still in my mind but I don’t know what to specialize.

sorry,I don’t know what SDN means…what is it?
