Hello everyone,
I’m planning to apply to transfer to some of the UC’s and USC (major: bioengineering).
If I were to apply to transfer next year, what grades do the school get? In other words, if I submit the application in November, would they get my grades for that Fall and upcoming Spring or just the semesters that I have already finished?
My Spring semester ends around the beginning of June and the transfer notifications are between March and April. So I’m guessing they won’t be able to see my Spring semester? After applying, when my grades for Fall come in, do I submit it to them or something like that?
The important thing is, by Spring semester of next year, I would have completed all the requirements anyway. I am just contemplating whether to take summer courses or do a summer internship. Should I get in as much of my requirements as possible before applying through summer courses or do a summer internship? Which would strengthen my application more?
I hope you guys understand what I mean. Even typing this is a mouthful. Sorry for all these questions, but my counselor isn’t much help at my school and I know bioengineering is a competitive major and I am just confused.
Thanks,

Cross the first two or three-ish paragraphs out.
I found that we have to do a Transfer Application Update after applying where the priority deadline is January 31st, which means I would only be able to submit my Fall semester grades. They do allow applicants to update their courses and grades till March (not really reliable as I heard it from somewhere or someone), but it may or may not be considered.

Due to this, I’ll probably take summer courses. I was looking forward to getting in some research opportunities during the summer, but there is a local internship that is related my major. I hope this is good enough to give me a shot at Berkeley and UCLA. Any inputs?
OP,
I’m also a CCC transfer applying to the UC’s. In my case, I will be looking to double major. Due to scheduling purposes over the 3 years after transfer, I will take summer courses in Summer 2018 right away in June. However, Summer 2019 and 2020 will be research/study abroad. So the summer courses will solely depend on your goals as a student.
My two cents: I’m not sure what you mean by increasing your chances with the summer courses. Your application will be reviewed and decisions out by April 30th. Anything after that date, I imagine would not be taken into consideration for admissions purposes, i.e. spring grades, summer grades/internship. Unless of course you desire to have internship/research work each summer for Grad school purposes. That I can see being relevant.
@optransfer, thanks for the input
An internship looks really good on applications. If you can get an internship, and still finish all your requirements in time that would be ideal. If you’re near LA, look up Biotech Leaders Academy for internship opportunities.
@erichioro
Yes, I’m going to do exactly that!
Also look up DOE CCI, it might not be exactly what you’re looking for but they have really cool opportunities. I have had a few internships and 2 of them were bio related even though I’m transferring as a chemical engineering major, so feel free to DM me if you have an questions. Good luck!
