I hear that about 20 out of 800 kids get accepted to the CCM MT program. Hearing this helped my D decide on the Dramatic performance Major. She is a great dancer and a very good actress with a pretty voice...does not think voice is good enough for the MT. Does anyone know if the DP is easier to get into? Will she be able to take advanced dance and voice lessons in that department? Thanks to all of you out there and best wishes!! Lisa G

My son was accepted for dramatic performance at CCM. Whether or not it's harder to get into MT or not I'm not sure, but I would guess that the MT major is more popular. There seems to be a lot of MT that do drama if they don't make MT. My S is a very good actor, has a good voice, but prefers dramatic performance. He does MT in the area, primarily because that's mostly whats available.

You should probably talk to some of the experts that typically get on this forum, but I would suspect that the numbers are lower for drama as far as applications, but they accept similar numbers. The drama dep't at CCM accepts approx. 30 - 35 students, with an anticipated class of 18-20. They typically graduate 10-15, however it has been as low as 8 recently.

You can take voice and dance lessons after your freshman year.

on the CCM website I noticed lots of electives in the curriculum. Would'nt they be able to be used for dance or voice in the 1st yr.? Also...from what you said it sounds like a lot of kids get in... but do not stick with the program and graduate, is that true? Thank you for your reply! Lisa G

In the CCM forum, I've been told that it's a combination of you don't have the time as a freshman and there isn't room for non-majors in voice especially. You may be able to find a voice coach but current students I have talked to say after the first year.

As far as the #'ers. Typically they have a class size of 18-20 and around 15 graduate, but I had heard of 1 class that graduated only 8. I think it is a very demandding program. The head of the program told us that he tends to lose a few each year for a variety of reasons, some just feel its not for them.

They don't have a cut system but they have "boards" in their Freshman and Sophmore years. These boards are auditions utilized to evaluate your progress. You have to show progress or you will not be allowed to continue the program. The students I have talked to feel good about the process and feel you are fine if you are committed to the program and do your work.

Hope this helps. There is a thread somewhere where a current student describes the process.

impressive web site...U of Conn.....BFA MT is supposed to be very good. any feedback from anyone? Thanks to all! Lisa G

Lisa, as far as I know, UConn has a BFA in Acting but not MT.
