It seems as though CMU doesn’t notify students until the END of the month (based on past years’ info). Anyone have ANY info yet?

I truly don't think people will hear for a few more weeks from CMU.

I know soozievt and because of that fact I am like DYING ....But I try not to think about it at all. Not thinking about getting a phone call-or a letter: It works most of the time. I'm trying to just let it happen in its own time!

The only thing I heard on the grapevine is that there are only two openings for girls in MT, due to the fact that several students who were admitted last year had to defer their admission until this year for various reasons.

NotMamaRose, I heard the same thing. What's your source?

skwidjymom - I have heard the same information from people within the MT program at CMU. I also remember hearing that one of the two girls that deferred her admission has since decided to pass on enrolling after all. This would imply that there would be three slots available.

Not to get anyone's hope up unrealistically, but I have been told that it has been an exceptionally strong audition year for girls. I think that nobody should be surprised however if CMU winds up deviating a bit from their original "boy/girl numbers".

I don't feel comfortable saying who told me, but the sources are reliable ones. I posted it to make those reading this forum aware that the already teensy odds of getting into CMU are being further reduced by special situations this year. That said, best of luck everyone!

Interesting.

In my D's year, three years ago, they only took three girls for MT. The odds are so teeny. I think some MT kids will be considered for acting, though those odds are still very small as CMU takes more boys than girls (they say so). My D who was trying for MT got on the Priority Waitlist for Acting. Knowing what I later learned about the number of girls taken for MT, it seemed shocking to even have made the waitlist. Given the odds, I started thinking whether it was really worth the huge expense to have traveled there, but I guess you never know. Still, them are tough odds since 1200 total audition.

My S applied early to CMU, and also auditioned early. He (and I) have been checking his status on-line, just to see that app materials were received. This has been one school where the on-line list has never matched what was sent AND it has never matched what they tell us by phone and by e-mail. I suppose that since we've been told that everything is in (as recently as last week), we needn't worry. However, my S's on-line account still says SAT's are missing (and they were sent by College Board September 4th, included in the high school stuff which was sent in early October, and then re-sent from the high school--as per CMU request--in December and again in February).

Yikes, you make me realize D better check her online status, too. Last she checked, it seemed to be a VERY complete list, which included every document from precollege, even.

With most schools, but particularly with CMU, I would check to see that it says all is there. Frankly, between our own experiences with CMU and the many accounts I have read, it just seems that there are organizational mishaps frequently. I recall checking my D's status in Jan. at CMU in her year and it said no audition was scheduled and I had scheduled it within minutes of them putting the system online that October and had a printout of a confirmation and payment. I called CMU, they had no record of it. Luckily I had saved the confirmation and payment proof and they asked me to fax it and then they honored it but had I not checked online, we could have gotten to her Feb. audition and they would not have expected her. So, always check that all is there. I keep hearing lots of this sort of thing, particularly at CMU but it happens at all schools.

letsfigureitout & NMR - I just wish that all schools that have this online status feature would be more efficient in updating things at their end. I don't really know that there is anything we can do about it other than making phone calls, double checking, and writing down names of who we or our kids speak with. Just really unsettling, especially since you don't want an application to be tossed out because of a "technicality". That said, it is my understanding that some of these competitive schools do tend to be lenient in this regard and actually do follow up with letters themselves eventually if documents are missing (examples of this I have seen at NYU & CCM).

I researched CC for last year. It seems like someone heard for acting 3-15 and for MT 3-21. I hope it works the same this year. This is one decision I'd like to be put out of my misery asap. I also heard that 3 girls were going into this year's group of MTers - whether that is true or we all heard a rumor spread from the same source who knows. They didn't mention it at auditions when they said 12 total were going into MT and I would have thought they would have been aware of it at the time.

I will say Barbara Mackenzie-Wood was one of the most dynamic and impressive people I met in our travels. She came across as a genuinely warm, loving person with a huge heart. IMHO, getting accepted to this school would be a huge honor.

If it's any consolation, I've found that my D's online status is unbelievably accurate and up to date. I've honestly been surprised how detailed the the log of events has been! It even shows the date we faxed in a financial aid signature form last week, as well as the date that her file was pulled to be read and reviewed! I hope for everyone's sake the the errors are actually the exception, rather than the norm.

As for notifications, I had called to find out if they had received this form I faxed (which they obviously had), and asked when notifications would be going out. The woman told me they would start mailing them out on the 24th,, and the decisions would start showing up online about 4-5 days after that. I also asked how many MT girls they were taking, and she wouldn't say (well, she said she had no idea . . . ). But, it looks like we only have about 2 more weeks of this insanity left! Goodness, what will I ever do with all this mental energy when it's all over??? (Maybe I'll finally get my life back!) :)

I asked about the source because the same info is posted on a Facebook group page...I was hoping for a more reliable source than that! Thanks for providing one.

OK--Now I'm really nervous. . .SATs are STILL not there. . .no note about the app being read/reviewed. Guess I'll call again.

One other thing to try and alleviate a few concerns -- I mentioned that it showed that it showed that my D's file had been reviewed -- however, it shows that it was just barely done this past Friday. I'd guess that means they are now in the review process. But again, since this was only last Friday, I'm sure they still have a bunch to go.

It shows up on the list of "Admissions Documents Received" and says "Folder pulled committee read." Have others out there got the same message on their "Where Am I In the Process" page?

well in case anyone is still wondering, i was at cmu pre college and my voice teacher claudia benack, who is on staff there told us that one girl was deferred to our year because of a severe car accident, and one girl was admitted this summer!!

tiffw was that under decision.
