Is anyone else applying for the CCM Commercial Music Production or is there anyone who did this last year? Just curious, mostly, as I know it is a new program there. S is waiting on his prescreen results. Would love to hear from anyone who has applied or is doing the program currently or tried last year but didn't go for whatever reason.

Hi,
Yes, I just applied for the Commercial Music Production major at CCM. I have not gotten anything back regarding being invited to an audition, nor have I heard anything about the program besides that it combines music comp/arrangement with business/production. Seems like a great program at a great school though. Do you have any idea how competitive this program is in regards to the others at CCM? Does it’s ‘newness’ make it any easier or more difficult to get in? Thanks, and all the best!

|Hey ajp – It does sound like a great program. When we first heard about it, my son, who’d been firm about Berklee being his number one pick, put this a strong second. Do you play an instrument as well as compose? Son does guitar.
I don’t know how competitive it is personally, but my guess would be fairly competitive. I think I read somewhere that they only accept 10 new freshman each year, but I could be wrong.
I’m hoping ya’ll hear tomorrow, but I know with the holidays it may be later. Wishing you the best and when you hear, let us know!

My son also applied for CMP. We are also waiting to hear about prescreening results. We registered for a Jan. 11 audition – that’s this Friday, and we haven’t heard a thing. I contacted admissions about a week before Christmas, because we are in California and needed to make flight arrangements. We were told they hoped to get the CMP auditions posted by Jan. 2. Well, it’s Jan. 7, and still nothing. I have calls out to Admissions (they aren’t answering their phones), have left two messages, and have emailed to ask for information. We are doing other auditions on the east coast this week, so are flying back anyway, and I’ve left a hole in the schedule so we can dash over to Cincinnati if need be. (If I’d waited to hear from them before booking, it would have cost me an EXTRA $1600!)… Not trying to be grouchy, but if this is how the school’s administration typically works, I am less than impressed.

mtandbassmom, I am so sorry you haven’t received word! It is crazy to have the audition day so close and … well, I have shaken my head a few times. It is probably much worse for you because of having to come from CA. At least this is one of our closer schools. I chose the Feb 1st or 22nd dates on the application, but I haven’t even seen those listed on the website. We haven’t tried to call because I knew the website said they had received a flood of applications. Surely those weren’t all for CMP??? (Yes, I know they weren’t - sometimes my weird sense of humor doesn’t translate to message boards)
I’ve heard generally good things about Cinc. Conserv. so I don’t think this is the way things usually work. Still I understand your frustration and if anyone should be grouchy, you probably have a reason. I hope everything works out. I can’t see them accepting him for audition and NOT letting him go ahead on the 11th, though. I feel like they will make some accommodation for that in that case.
Let us know when you hear!!!

I am sorry about your frustration, too, and surprised. I never had a problem getting through to Admissions when I had to address anything last winter. School did just get back in session today, and in fact my son couldn’t check into his dorm again until yesterday, so I have to believe they would be reachable if you try again tomorrow.

Got the message just now – it’s a “no” for us. Son is a little crushed, but mostly he just would like to know why. He’s always looking for feedback to improve. The letter was no doubt a form letter and just talked about how many applicants and they were very sorry they couldn’t make room for him. Oh well.

aww man, I am so sorry to hear that. As a transfer student (previously applying as a freshman), I know it’s very hit or miss. I got into Michigan and UCLA out of high school, but not NYU or Indiana. Did he audition with them, or not just get through the pre-screening. What did the audition consist of? I’m wondering if the sight-reading and chords progressions will be difficult. Best of luck with all of your other possibilities!

Hey. Thanks. Yes, he auditioned for the Commercial Music Production on guitar, so he submitted a prescreen that consisted of 3 original pieces. He did the recording himself, all tracks, mixed and mastered, etc. He did 2 rock guitar pieces (sort of in the style of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc) and one orchestral piece.
We asked for feedback on his submissions and why they did not get him past the prescreen, but they declined, for the same reason, they said, as why he wasn’t accepted: too many applicants, blah blah. Oh well.
