I am currently a mature student at Ryerson University in the heart of downtown Toronto…basically as for being in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) my entire life, I’d like to possibly spend some time somewhere else.
I’m just wondering, is the CCNY a bad place for engineering. I mean I currently am at Ryerson in Toronto, in which some people nickname it Rye High…sure I know CCNY is no Columbia, but is it that bad?
CCNY is NOT bad. One of my D’s smartest friends is a kid who left HS early to go to Simon’s Rock and then went to CCNY to study engineering and was very happy there. My middle son has a friend currently studying engineering there and he says it is a very rigorous program.
My uncle attended CCNY back in the 1930’s and was a Seabee in WWII with his engineering degree. He was able to afford a beautiful home and a nice lifestyle before he died.
City College is the best of the CUNYs for engineering, probably the best CUNY in general. Definitely the most highly regarded. With City, a 90+ average is competitive. Probably safer to have around a 95 though. I’d say a 27 on the ACT at the bare minimum. A 29 is probably safer. For SAT, I’d say anywhere from a 1100 to a 1350 could get accepted. City is probably one of the more difficult CUNYs to get into. I applied to Hunter College and the College of Staten Island with a 97 and a 31. CSI, for reference, is one of the easiest to get into.
My D didn’t apply to CCNY; it was my uncle who attended in the 1930’s and friends of my sons’ who attended more recently. I don’t know what scores it is looking for, just that the boys I know who attended recently all liked it.
