I am a parent of a current Junior MT girl at CCU. I just want to encourage anyone thinking of considering CCU Theatre—MT or Acting to put it high on your list!! It has been an amazing experience for my daughter so far! The theatre, dance and music faculty are wonderful and really take a personal interest in each student. The dept. is small so they are very close and students are from all over the country. The campus is beautiful, the weather and the beach are an added bonus!
I remind my daughter ALL the time how lucky she is to be at CCU for MT ---- and she always tells me she feels so blessed to be part of the theatre dept. at CCU!! Best of luck to all of you auditioning this season for next year!! If anyone has any questions please do not hesitate to message me---- If I can’t help or answer a question I will direct you to the right person.
Thank you! My son has a confirmed audition slot in January. So glad you daughter likes the program and school! I may have questions…Anne
Happy to answer any questions or direct you to the correct person. Sending a big “Break A Leg” to your son for all his auditions!
My daughter is auditioning for CCU today at Unifieds. I’d love to hear more of your experience there. When do we hear after Unified auditions? We haven’t been to CCU so we’d like to make a visit if we get accepted. My D is auditioning for 10 schools, but is waiting to see results before visiting. She doesn’t want to get her heart set on a school and then not get in the program.
My D auditioned on campus mid-January. I believe they said everyone would hear in March. She LOVED the faculty. I did as well. She had a wonderful audition experience with them!
In past years, Monica and the rest of the faculty take the end of February (I believe there is one on campus audition left?) and start of March to finish up their decisions. Calls/emails start going out as early in March as they can. Often it’s at the start, sometimes it’s around Spring Break (middle of March). I will say that this year we are doing a much earlier NYC senior showcase (March 3rd), so that may make the casting process slow down slightly, but I can’t guarantee that.
If you haven’t heard by March 15th or so and others on the site have, send an email to check in. There’s no harm in seeing where they are in the process, especially if you’d like to find time to travel to campus, which I highly recommend. If accepted and you all choose to visit, Monica will set up an itinerary for your D that often includes a private voice lesson, dance and/or acting classes to sit in on, lunch with a current student(s), and tickets to a production that night if one is currently running. I made this trip after being accepted off-campus and it was the deciding factor in choosing Coastal- and I couldn’t have made a better decision.
If you or anyone else has questions, don’t hesitate to post here. I’m traveling home from UPTAs today, so I am killing time for sure.
@AlexaMT Thanks for the info! Do they normally call- or normally email? Or does it depend on the answer? Thanks!
Emails will definitely happen for wait-lists and redirects, and my guess is they will probably email the acceptances as well again this year. I can’t guarantee they won’t call with an acceptance though, since I am not there anymore to ask and it did happen one year I worked in the office? Regardless, all decisions are followed up with a formal letter. If you shoot an email to the student recruitment coordinator who probably scheduled your audition via email (my guess is Riley or Kailey?) they can answer your question with more certainty.
Thank you Alexa ! YOU were helpful. Hope to visit CCU soon!
Quick question about CCU…College Board describes it as a “commuter college”. Does that mean not many students live in the dorms and are around on weekends, holidays, etc?
At one time it was more of a commuter school but there are a large number of students that live on campus. They are in process of building some really beautiful new freshmen dorms. My daughter is a sophomore MT and lives on campus. Lots of activity on weekends.
I agree at one time it was a commuter school but I believe a very small percentage of students commute from the area. The theatre dept. has students from ALL over the country–CA, FL, OH, PA, GA, OK, AL, TX, NC, NJ, NY and on and on! I agree lots going on to keep them busy! Look on the CCU website and you should see how many dorms and on campus options they have. Good Luck! My daughter loves CCU, the theatre & music faculty and the students in the dept!!
Many college sites are developed using very out of date information. CCU hasn’t been a commuter college for quite some time now. In fact over 50% of the student body is from out of state. The department has only a small percentage from SC, and we only have a handful of local students. In fact, at one time we had more students from Texas than we did from Myrtle Beach (including AlexaMT
This is a bit off topic, but another great thing about CCU is how connected the alums are to the school and to each other. There is a large group of alums living and working and networking in NYC. And those not in NYC stay connected as well through social media and alumni events.
@kjgc Any idea on when offers will be sent out- I somehow totally missed a time frame for CCU. Thanks!
I don’t have much to do with it anymore now that I’m no longer the Chair. I do know that Monica is in NY with the showcase this week and had planned to get offers out as soon as she returns next week. This is a far more complex set of steps than most people realize. I would look for answers in the third week of March. Anything before that would be good. If you haven’t hard by the 18th, just drop us an email.
@kjgc - I can only imagine how complex it is getting the puzzle pieces to fit together. Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it.
thank you for the information.!
Has ccu made offers or sent out any notices yet?
An earlier post says they have their senior showcase 3/3 which is today! We haven’t heard anything…maybe next week?
