Celebrities Dropping Like Flies

Only in certain circles.

do we have the same conversations when a smoker dies of lung cancer?

If they were a prominent spokesperson for the tobacco industry, itā€™s not unlikely that we would.

itā€™s a warped society when we relish in the death of anyone with dissenting opinions.

Since I took us off topic Iā€™ll say I donā€™t relish anyone dying.

Iā€™m simply noting that itā€™s easy to foresee. Frankly many have died because of otherā€™s carelessness.

Schools are in many cases now providing crap education because of otherā€™s carelessness and this teachers and support staff get sick. They are asking parents to babysit. They donā€™t even have subs.

I simply made the comment that in my travels to Florida (I go for work) youā€™d have no idea thereā€™s a pandemic based on lack of precautions. And while people say itā€™s just a sniffle and cold itā€™s not. And masks must work because and maybe itā€™s luck but Iā€™ve yet to get.

Iā€™m sad Meat Loaf or Bob Saget who had covid two months ago or any of the thousands that die each day from anythingā€¦Iā€™m sad they all die.

But frankly many are reckless. Some that die arenā€™t and weā€™re basically killed because of other peoples recklessness.

And overall few seem to care because itā€™s gone from a public health issue to political.

Yes I shouldnā€™t have gone off topic but no Iā€™m not celebrating. Iā€™m angry and sad that people have become overly selfish.

But Iā€™ll still keep Meat on my Spotify.

Nobody said anything about relishing anyoneā€™s death. We can regret what happened to someone, and regret that their choices played a part in it. And also regret that others may have been harmed by the way they chose to use their influence. All of these things can be true, without malice or schadenfreude.

Anyway, Iā€™ve noticed a lot more people than normal dying also. Itā€™s my personal opinion that the non-Covid deaths are the result of putting off routine health checkups so things like cancer are further along, or the result of social isolation and losing zest for life.

Powell wasnā€™t boosted - he should have been, he had serious risk factors.

As a kid, I remember seeing my parents reacting to sad news of a celebrity from their youth having passed away. I didnā€™t know who any of these people were, but they had been big stars when my parents were young. Itā€™s just that weā€™re getting older, and the stars of our youth, who are a bit older than us, are going now. Although going of Covid through the idiocy of not having been vaxxed and boosted is really unfortunate. And yes, tons of cancer deaths, sadly. Whenever I read of someone in their 40s to 60s having died, it almost always seems to be of cancer.

My high school class was very small, but I think only one person has died. She committed suicide while in college. My younger son says his much larger class (at least 8x) already had lots of accidents and drug overdose deaths shortly after heā€™d graduated from college.

My class was large, I think about 500, and 100 at the nearby catholic school (and we now hold joint reunions as we all grew up together) but I think there have been close to 100 deaths! We are 63-65 years old now.

Meatloaf was also asthmatic. He was the first live concert my kids attended.

And the point? He wasnā€™t boosted, so what? He was extremely ill. Sometimes this need to comment on the decisions of others is just ridiculous.

Honestly, the only music I remember of Meat Loaf was whatever he sang in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I know Iā€™m supposed to know him, but I really was only aware of him at all due to his odd nickname.

Really . When you are driving and some guy comes weaving through at a high rate of speed, freaking you out and endangering people they are passing by, you donā€™t comment or even call 911?

Thatā€™s what a vax less or certainly mask less people are doing. making the decision to potentially (not definitely) injure or worse others.

Sports illustrated had a wonderful article a while ago on the parallels to 100 years ago. The evidence is here and we ignore or accuse professionals/experts of lying.

I love Meat Loaf but if you make bad choices, your ā€˜cekebā€™ status doesnā€™t matter. And many of us are tired of unnecessary deaths.

Hereā€™s the first part of SI storyā€¦fictional account woven with facts from that pandemic.

I wasnā€™t talking about Meatloaf. I was referring to the comment about Colin Powell dying at the age of 84, who had been battling multiple myeloma.
Yes, I ā€œreallyā€ think it is ridiculous to bring up that the man wasnā€™t boosted.

Powell died mid-October. He may not have been eligible for the booster yet. His compromised immune status meant that a booster wouldnā€™t have had much effect anyway. His story is one of the many reasons why itā€™s important for everyone to be completely vaccinated - so that those who canā€™t be vaccinated or whose immune systems are weakened are protected.

His name was Robert Paulson!

RIP, Meatloaf.

I saw Meatloaf at a very small venue right after his first radio hit. What a phenomenal show it was! He was really fun. I hope he enjoyed his life as much as I enjoyed his music.

I agree with @Luckyjade2024. Is it necessary to have this thread devolve into a COVID vaccine and booster lecture? Again. Itā€™s like a broken record. Does it really matter if he was unvaxxed? It was his choice. If he had died of cancer, or a heart attack, a drug overdose or just old age this thread would still tie it to his vax status and vaccines and boosters. Can we just remember Meatloaf without all the criticism? Itā€™s remarkable how respect for the dead has taken a hit these days.
