I might have posted this on the Bob Saget thread, but my HS class has had three die in the past month. We are about 60. Two of Covid and one of a stroke.
The two Covid deaths and two others last year – well, I’ll skip the commentary. The stroke felt different because the guy was pretty overweight, even in HS, so it felt a bit like, ugh, we are reaching the age where a lifetime of our choices is starting to catch up to us. You know how you could drink and bounce back the next day like nothing in our 20s? Well, we can’t keep making the poor choices we did when we were young and not expect to eventually have to pay the piper. I’m just hoping to make it at least out of my 60s before that time comes.
A lot of people around me seem to be dying way too young. Hadn’t thought about how Covid may have delayed routine doctor visits that may have caught things sooner.
I am with you that not everything has to be about Covid, but if there’s a direct link to it I don’t see why it shouldn’t be discussed. If someone died of a drug overdose, wouldn’t we talk about their drug use? If someone died in a high-speed car crash, is it off-limits to talk about their speeding? Seems germane.
Not relishing is a celebrity death at all. Emotions I’m feeling are sadness and FRUSTRATION—many of these deaths simply need not happen. For some reason “owning” the opposition is worth dying for???
You’re right. It’s incredibly sad and frustrating but they were adults and perhaps made poor choices. But they certainly haven’t cornered the market on that. @Youdon_tsay made an excellent point about earlier lifestyle choices (or even current ones) coming back to haunt you. But would we pick apart the stroke victim’s choices that lead to his death? Maybe? Maybe not?
For many folks their co-morbidities are genetic (diabetes, etc.). For hard-living rockers and other celebrities, their co-morbidities are the excesses of drink, drugs, etc., in their younger days.
Since I am diabetic, I make damn sure I get every vaccine I am eligible for. If I had lived the life of a 70’s rocker, I would imagine I would do the same thing, given the abuse my body would have suffered.
As @vpa2019 has mentioned. There are many other forums to discuss covid and vaccines.
Meatloaf was an extremely talented icon of his time. His music touched many generations and his voice octave range was a rare gift.
He suffered many health issues including multiple surgeries. He chose to live his life in his own way - why do we feel the need to be so judgemental of people when they die?
Why not celebrate and remember his talents and the music he left behind. And pray for his loved ones?
It seems like celebrities are dying off because we know so many more celebrities. Television, music, movies, etc. I saw that actress Yvette Mimieux died aged 80. I remember as a kid being terrified at the movie “The Time Machine”. Yvette Mimieux was one of the gentle people being captured and eaten by the underground dwelling Morlocks. The gentle people were the Eloi.
My cousin, who embraced his philosophy and went to retreats where he spoke, posted “ No sadness. His wave glides back into to the ocean from which it arose.” I thought, that’s what Chidi told Eleanor on The Good Place.
someone can still catch it from a vaccinated person. things are different and we have more information. Most of the country is vaccinated - so this is not a pandemic of the unvaccinated - that is nonsense. BTW I am vaccinated and so is my family. I just don’t villainize others who choose differently.
Yes they can but they might not catch as high a viral load as they could from an unvaccinated-and the difference in amount of viral load can have an impact on how severe the case is for the person who caught it.
My intent in starting this thread was not to get bogged down by yet another antivax / rates of transmission / efficacy of vaccine discussion; we have enough of those on this site where such posts which are more appropriate. So I’d ask that COVID discussion, where not related to the death of the celebrity, find a better home.
Yes, I agree. But then there are some that are unvaccinated and barely have more than a cold. I had covid before the vaccine and so did my brother - we didn’t even know we had it. Then I have an uncle who got it and died.
What I’m saying is either way you can catch it or spread it.
