Cell Phone Service

This may seem like a random question, but do any cell phone providers not function on or around columbia's campus? logically i'd say that NYC would be a pretty solid hub of communications, but i've heard many accounts of only one cell phone provider getting service at USC down where i live, and LA is a pretty urban area as well. If anyone has any ideas or rumors, please respond so i and others can plan accordingly

Verizon seems to be the most popular among students from what I understand. It has occasionally been known to work even in the subway. You shouldn't have a problem with any provider, though, there is no shortage of cell towers in Manhattan.

i walked through nyc with verizon and it was fine

How's T-mobile?

Verizon and Cingular have the best service throughout NYC; Verizon will SOMETIMES work at certain very popular subway stations. T-mobile experiences some problems in some locations. On campus you should be fine with any provider.

Which Places does t-mobile have problems?

I don't remember; I used to have t-mobile and I remember not having great service in a few locations. It really shouldnt be a problem though.

another similar question not worthy of a new thread: what bank is the most convenient/popular on campus? again i realize that NYC is the financial mecca of the US (the world?), so i'm sure there are plenty nearby, i'm just curious as to the most easily accessed

CITIBANK! It's spread throughout the city like a plague.

Its true, there was a citibank right in Lerner Hall when I visited. And there was another one somewhere down the street.

Either Citibank Or Chase, they are all over the city.

As for cell phone service, I have T-Mobile and never had a problem on campus or the area surrounding it.

I had Sprint on-campus last year and it was horrible. This past year Columbia cut a special deal with Sprint and I think it's one of the best now.

I use Cingular/AT&T and have perfect reception now.

Is there a Wachovia in Morningside Heights?

havne't heard of one. you could go to their website and see if they have a branch nearby.

citibank AKA the most evil corporation in the world.... hmm..
there is a wachovia in midtown but they aren't everywhere. (i'm from new york btw) Ive used fleet forever - it is now Bank of America, they're poppin up all over the place. I don't know what banks are on campus though.

oh verizon is most popular, although you can use any service in nyc, youll be covered. i used to use tmobile and occasionally outside of nyc you have coverage problems. Cinguar and verizon are definitely the most popular. Prices are pretty much the same... maybe tmobile has better promotional deals, but you sacrifice coverage outside of nyc.

Cingular/ATT works perfectly.

The closest Wachovia is at Columbus Circle (59th St). Citibank is everywhere. There's a Chase not too far away.
