Hi-- Wondering about the best cellphone service on campus. We're on Verizon and are hoping not to have to switch, with the "in" plan and all it's pretty cheap for the family. Also, how is cell reception in dorms? Thanks.

Verizon, period. There are towers on campus.

Yep, what he said.

How are the other plans (like cingular, sprint...etc)? Are they utterly crappy or doable?

Verizon works everywhere. Cingular and the others don't work in some random dorms and buildings.

lol... verizon it is then.

wat about tmobile? =/

Verizon is best. Cingular/AT&T are in second place. But Verizon is undisputedly the best.

I have cingular and I don't like it. I can't get more than 1 bar in my dorm room, and I have to go to obscure places in the building if I want to call from inside. I usually go outside to make a call, b/c I do get good to full reception outside, it is just inside that sucks. If you have the choice between Cingular and Verizon, definitely Verizon.

Verizon isn't so hot inside dickson in some spots either, but it's definitely the best.

FYI: The Motorola RAZR V3c just came out for Verizon, and you can get it cheaply with a new plan with a 2 year contract.

i use sprint and it works everywhere. i know verizon is supposedly 'the best' but current spring owners dont need to go out and switch plans.

...the same cannot be said for cingular or t-mobile. The only thing good comming out of t-mobile is commercials with a hot actress and a really good professional cycling team.

what abt guys who don't have cell phones... r there enough base phones to use all over the campus

I don't think I'd be able to function without my cell phone

Get a cell phone arjun. Since you're away/travelling, it lets people contact you anytime, anyplace, that you want. Very invaluable, especially for a college student, who has lots of appointments, meetings, classes, places to be, and contacts to stay in touch with. We have the same hustle-bustle life as a NYC businessman, just in the middle of nowhere in ithaca instead.

for the record, thats Verizon: 5; Sprint: 1; Everyone else: 0. The reason is likely that verizon and sprint both use a CDMA network, which is evidently better than the GSM network in Ithaca

I have verizon, and while it is the best, I still get no service inside my dorm. Get used to your room phone.

Looks like one less thing to think about-- we stick with Verizon. thanks again. wheezer

yeah I only get verizon service at select locations and phone angles in my room. But the other services are crap in the dorms. If I go to the lobby or end of the hall of dickson I can talk fine. It also has to do with your phone...some phones get reception better than others.
