Central School of Speech and Drama audition report

Hi everyone,

as I couldn't find pretty much any info about the Central auditions here, I decided to post a report.

The auditions were pretty good. I arrived there very early when they were still setting up and a woman who was moving the piano had an accident: the piano fell on her leg. So the day started pretty intense.

Everyone was taken to a room and did vocal and movement warm ups and they answered questions about the school and the programs (supposedly there are 4000 auditioning every year, and they only take about 45). Then, the BA applicants stayed and we all did our classical monologues. About 6 were called back (out of 25 I think), but I wasn't one of them.

They said the people who were called back would do their monologues (both classical and contemporary) and those who wanted to could sing.

Well, I guess that's it!

Thanks for the update, milkshakespeare! That’s some accident! Poor woman–I hope she recovers smoothly–

Sorry you didn’t make the callbacks, but with chances like those, it’s going to be a crapshot. I forgot–are you applying to other British schools?

Please continue to keep us posted.

Connections - yes, I’m applying to the University of the Arts in London, also known as Central Saint Martins, although Central was my first option. Well, too bad, I guess.

Risk. Fail. Risk again. Tomorrow I’m doing CalArts.

milkshakespeare, did you travel to Great Britain for your auditions, or were you able to do them in your home country?

Central holds auditions in San Francisco, which is where I am. UAL said they might audition in my home country (as they did last year), but I’ll probably just audition via DVD.
