Century Scholars Question

Hey guys!

I had heard that I was rejected from the two summer research programs that I applied to at Baylor and UNMC; however, I was "admitted" into the Boston Medical Center "City Lab" program. This is basically a 5 day research seminar where students take on some fairly basic microbio research projects. I was just wandering if doing this program, which is extremely short, and then spending five months expanding this research and doing intel would be enough to qualify me for a century scholarship. Additionally, if I go into a research program next summer, would I be able to become a century scholar even though application time is done (assuming I get into Rice...which I have been told I have a decent shot at).

Thanks,
Robbie

No one knows for sure. But that seems like it will help.

I don’t understand the obsession with Century Scholars; I mean, it’s a great program and all, but it’s not like your opportunities at Rice are limited if you’re not a Century Scholar. I’d go so far as to say that nobody at Rice except Century Scholars really knows who’s a Century Scholar and who’s not.

NYSkins–you’re right. There are lots of opportunities to do research at Rice, whether you’re part of the Century Scholars program or not, but I disagree with you that there’s nothing there to get excited about. For prospective students, the program offers a scholarship for 2 years, and another group to be part of, right from day one, during o-week.
