So my acceptance package arrived in the mail today and I was surprised to get a Trustee Distinguished Scholarship of $14,500 for 4 years (something I was not expecting at all). I thought that if I would get any scholarship it would be the Century Scholars because of my research awards, so my question is how hard is it to do in-depth, continuous research for several months in something like bioengineering or biochemistry if you don't have the Century Scholars?

Jenskate can help you. My Dd's experience at Rice is that there are always lots of profs looking for help doing /participating in research - regardless of whether you have a Century Scholars designation or not.

It should be no problem. I'm sending you a pm.

nctaiwaneseguy,

I am in the exact situation as you. I'm surprised that I got the Trustee Distinguished Scholarship, because I thought I had a better chance at the Century Scholars because of my past experience in research. Nonetheless, I am still very happy!

However, I would also like to know if there are plenty of research opportunities for non-Century Scholars. How do I go about pursuing these?

There will be abundant opportunites at Rice and opportunities elsewhere during the summer because you go to Rice. Research hospitals that offer summer internships love Rice students.
