Cerro Vista

Hello,

I am going to be going to Cal Poly as a transfer next fall as a business admin accounting major. I applied for housing at Cerro Vista (only available option for transfers) and I was wondering what the apartments are like.

For any people who live or have lived there…
any pros or cons about the place?
How social are the apartments compared to the typical dorm experience?
Are there RN or CNs?

Also, I’m kinda curious about the matching system for roomates, is it completely random? Would it be wise to try and find suitable roomates beforehand, or is it not worth the effort?

They told me that they try to match you up with people around your same age. I think that outside of that, it’s pretty random. I guess we’ll find out in a few months!

Also, I’d be really interested to know about the RA situation. How strict are they, etc…
I hope that since I’m 21, they’ll be putting me in an apartment with other people who aren’t underage.

I don’t see why we shouldn’t start a roommate matching service thread for Cerro Vista right here. I’ve been looking for fitting roommates on Facebook and other social networking sites, but I have yet to find people that are compatible.

@Hootenany gotcha, yeah I’m 21 too and I am hoping that the RNs aren’t as strict as i’ve been told they are at the dorms.

@NICKOFSTEEL not a bad idea, I was cruising around the internet looking for a facebook group or CC thread about it, but no luck.
Do you have ideas on information people should provide? Age, hobbies, study habits, party habits, major?.. nothing else pops into mind atm.

You can create a site on FB called “Cerro Vista at Cal Poly SLO for Transfer Students” or something similar. Then within the site, you can create topics on the Discussion area. Maybe you can let people know about it here, so they can go over and check it out. If you look at the Cal Poly Class of 2015 on FB, you’ll see a Roommate topic in their Discussion, so maybe you can follow a similar format. Or just copy and paste that and tweak it accordingly for a transfer student. You can also create other topics like Majors or anything you think might be of interest to a transfer student. Perhaps a topic on where everyone is transferring from. Good luck!

Just go to the link below. Maybe it will help if you participate. Maybe not, but at least you gave it a shot. :)

What happened with the Cerro Vista Roommate search thread? It totally disappeared on me!

Roommate Searches on College Confidenital are not allowed. Sorry guys, the thread is gone… :(

damn, stupid forum rules.
Its too bad your brilliant thread was destroyed surfbuff, it was working really well…

I didnt check that thread since early this morning, did you see my post to you Nick?

Matttt: I did like 3 more replies on that thread since this morning. Mind refreshing my memory as to what you asked?

sure, me n hootenany are roomin. I asked if you wanted to join, but I saw you were 19 and was asking if you cared about the age difference… we are 21.

Oh ya, I said I had no problem with it. You guys seemed like the type I wouldn’t mind being roommates with. I just said for you two to converse amongst yourselves and see if you wouldn’t mind relinquishing your freedoms as a 21 year-old guy at Cerro to have a 20 year old roommate.

solid plan,

what freedoms would we be giving up? I’m not too familiar with the rules at Cerro. I guess I’m safe to assume that RNs only allow alcohol in rooms with all tenants being 21+?

Ya, alcohol is allowed if everyone in the apartment is 21+ (wow, that took me like 30 seconds to find the plus key on my laptop, lol). And seeing that since I’ll only be 20 when I enter the apartment, you guys will have to sacrifice that luxury. I know you both aren’t alcoholics or anything, I’m just letting you know you should both think it over before you commit to having me, despite how swell I am :stuck_out_tongue: , as a roommate.

lol! yeah its that + and ~ key that are always hard to find

Yeah I don’t really care, but Ill talk to hootenany about it.

I was really looking forward to drinking all day errday, but I guess I can give that up for a ‘swell’ roomate. hah!

Ha, ya I felt like a member of the Brady Bunch when I wrote that, but it was the first word that came to mind and I felt it described me alright. lol

Anyway, just hit me up with a private message once you talk with Hootenany. I think we may have monopolized the conversation on this thread for a lil too long.

I can vouch for NickofSteel. He is probably the most swell guy I know.

I am a Transfer student also in the Orfalea College of Buisness department as an Industrial Technology major. Comming from the bay area here in California this fall will be my first year at Cal Poly SLO. Right now it’s looking like I’ll be applying for the on-campus housing at Cerro Vista(doesn’t seem like I have any other choice as an incoming transfer student). Just in reading the comments by people on several different forums, these apartments seem pretty nice.

About me, I’m a pretty chill, sociable guy. I’ll be 21 before the fall quarter starts. I’m clean and neat when it comes to my living area. I’m down to party and kickit as well as I am content in a quiet environment. I enjoy physical activities and staying in shape as well as the occasional video games. Apart from being a student, I’d like to become more familiar with the social aspect that these apartments/this university has to offer. So far I don’t know anyone down at Cal Poly, and as you know if you’ve started to apply for this Cerro Vista Housing they give you the opportunity to request a roommate. I’d prefer living with fellow transfer students as opposed to freshmen that I noticed have this housing option available to them. So if you happen to be in a similar situation you should fly me by a message

Hey cbbryon, I am a transfer student also majoring in Business. I will probably be applying to Cerro Vista as well since I do not know anybody here and can’t get an apartment. I just took the tour today, and cerro vista seemed really nice! The apartments looked like they were about 1100-1400 plus utilities for a two bedroom, while cerro vista is 736. If anyone here is interested in looking for an apartment or being a potential roommate please reply or message me. My email is sleeknerve@gmail.com.
