So I was browsing the United States Institute of Peace website (don't ask me why) and discovered that they offer a FREE certificate course in interfaith conflict resolution. sure, you guys can probably take the online course and put it on your resume/app but I was thinking about the bigger picture: like does anyone know of any programs where AMERICAN high school students can get involved in the peace process, such as in Palestine/Israel? Just a little idea that crossed my mind. :-P

LOL The op isn't Ms. South Carolina!

Um... I really don't think there's anything a high schooler could do in this process... except get shot. I hear martyrdom looks pretty cool on your resume if that's what you mean.

Yeah, there's lots of programs like that lol. There are high school organizations over in that region that are trying to promote peace among the younger generations, and people do mission trips there sometimes. I'm not sure of any in particular, but you can try google-ing it or asking your counselor.

they would annihilate you if you talked to them, isreal and palestine. I am sorry, but what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.[/

The only thing that made me dumber than readin that thread was reading your response. I hope God has mercy on your soul so that I won't have to see you for an eternity in hell.

^ True, and I was kidding too. I would not wish eternal damnation on anyone, esspecially myself.I reconized that quote, from near the end after he tells the story of the lost puppy.

of course the certificate won't "qualify" you for anything. the thing just got me thinking.

hXXp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProjectsworkingforpeaceamongIsraelisand_Arabs
there's a list of programs but the programs for high school students are for those IN israel/palestine

"they would annihilate you if you talked to them, isreal and palestine"

and i think one of the reasons peace HASN'T been achieved there is just because of that kind of mindset on the part of both sides. I know one individual can't change the world, but isn't it good enough to do what you can to help?

understand that many of the people in Israel and Palestine do not trust American politicians.

yes, the world has problems. doesn't the road to SOLVING these problems have to begin somewhere? i see no problem in being "paternalistic/moralistic." its better than being cynical

They are either stubborn for help or are begging for it, or "Outsiders" are putting morals on them or not helping the ones who need help. This kind of of lack of communication is what is getting nothing done. Just my 2 cents.

and btw, i was talking about grassroots stuff, not "change the whole world" crap

"change the whole world" crap

. . . which is why the world will never change.

^ Poor John Mayer. I will break the news to him.

its good that you have this dream though, thinking about doing the impossible is something that you should never ever let go of.

ha i wasnt even trying to do anything spectacular, but thanks.
