Certifications?

I’m speaking more about a specific case but I guess this can apply to any type of certification.

w3schools offers certification for a variety of languages. You must get over a 75% on an online exam (with 2 tries) as well as pay 95$ each. I honestly think these are super easy and could do them in my sleep. My only question is, should I be investing in this? Would college admission officers even care that I got some sort of certification?

This sort of exam is not useful for college/university admission. The Language exams that are useful are the SAT II, AP, and CLEP exams. Depending on the specific college/university, one or more of those exams can be useful when applying for admission, for placing out of a language requirement for college/university graduation, for placing into a higher level language course at that college/university, or for earning credit. Some colleges and universities also offer their own exams for languages that they offer that don’t have SAT II, AP, or CLEP exams.

When the type of certification you describe might be useful, would be if you need do demonstrate your competence in one of the languages covered by the exams in order to get or keep a job. In that case however, you would need to verify that this particular exam is one that the employer accepts. They may prefer another.

@happymomof1 I think you misunderstood. by language I mean computer science languages.

The OP is talking about programming/scripting languages.

However, the answer is still not useful.

Thanks for straightening me out about that @MasterPleb. This kind of certification won’t matter for admission. When some kind of certification could possibly matter would be when applying for a job, or if a specific certification could mean that you would be able to skip an introductory course in college. In either of those cases, you need to verify with the potential employer and/or with the college department that the particular certification exam is something they care about.

If you think it is super easy, why would it be useful for college application? If it is a professional certification, then it may be useful. The only place you can report that is in the additional information section.
