Just recieved the book…the flimsy cover is a little disappointing.

i tried to buy the book online through the bookstore, and all it suggested for the class was “Discovering Computers 2011: Intro” which is $102, and there was nothing about an E-Book.
Is this the book you guys are talking about? because i found it on chegg.com for rent for just $55.
Do you guys suggest i rent it or buy it from amazon? or just buy the ebook?

Usually profs with give the link to buy the ebook on the first day of class. The bookstore does not generally sell ebooks, rather they are online transactions. And often it is NOT an ebook, it is electronic access to course materials. If you like having a book, and don’t want to worry about not having e-access just before a test when everyone is trying to sign on, but the book used or rent it.

Oscarcollege, I’m pretty sure the book will be very hard to find used since it is a 2011 edition. A couple of other CCers and I on this thread bought the book from amazon.com for $67 plus or minus including shipping. Do NOT buy it from the bookstore for $102. As for renting, if the bookstore was the only place you could find the book (for $102) I’d recommend renting for $55, but since you could get the book for less, why not pay a little more than $10 to actually own the book.

If you sign up for Amazon Prime (they offer a free one year trial for college students, a $79 value) you’ll get free 2-day shipping which is great!

Wow. This is just an “updated” version of the book I had to use for ITGS in High School… I don’t think I’ll even need to buy or rent a copy since not much has changed from '10 to '11.

Avoid the bookstore at all costs. If you truly can’t find the book online anywhere, then you have no choice. But I urge you to look around. Even if it’s a few dollars cheaper, it’s still good. Sometimes there isn’t a way around the ridiculous cost of books, but you never know. I bought my Business Calculus book from a third party seller, and it cost $18.04 with shipping. It had an FSU Bookstore Used Book label on the spine. It’s typically a good idea to wait until the class starts. A lot of professors will tell you whether or not you need the book, or if you’ll be able to get by without using it. If you absolutely must get the book in a limited amount of time, buy it from the bookstore. But keep looking! You can usually return the book if you find it cheaper elsewhere (assuming it’s a reasonable window for returns).
