even though your e.c.s are good you probably wont get in you are way out academically for all of those tier 1 schools. you better explain a lot in your essays or you dont have a chance in my opinion. best of luck though and congrats on the app thats pretty cool

Wow. You’re not kidding when you say your academics are low and your extracurriculars are amazing… no matter what, I know that any admissions rep would be extremely interested in your file, because you’re such a unique case.

I’d guess that the first five would be mid-high reaches for you, BU would be a match, Northeastern would be a low-mid reach, Northwestern a high reach, TCNJ a match, Rutgers a low match or safety, Fordham a high match, NYU a reach, Stevens a high match, and GWU a low reach.

(Sorry for not giving much feedback, but that was a looong list to go through.)

If it’s possible, I would say to improve your ACT and/or SAT scores. This could definitely help the fact that your academics are weak. I certainly think that with your outstanding ECs, you have a good chance at the top Universities. But at the same time, these places get a lot of people with the same caliber ECs as you and outstanding academics.

I think John’s chances were fairly accurate. Like I said, try to pull up standardized test scores.

Your EC’s are stellar. But your GPA and SAT’s are WAAAYYYY out of range for most of these schools. Academics are the most important part of an application, and you do not stand up to the competition. Remember, your competition at these tier-1 schools have similar EC’s as you. So why would AdComs give you an exception?

UPenn
Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford: Almost impossible
BU: High Match/Match
Northeastern: High Match/Match
Northwestern: High Reach/Reach
TCNJ: i don’t know much about this school
Rutgers: i don’t know much about this school
Fordham: i don’t know much about this school
NYU: Reach
Stevens: i don’t know much about this school
GWU: i don’t know much about this school

I have two questions in addition if you guys could answer?

Where do you guys think if anywhere should I ED? (I’m thinking UPenn because I love the campus and academics there if possible to get in with ED)

Also theoretically consider that my SAT scores rose to 2000+ and ACT 32+ because I will be taking the ACT October 26th and the SAT November 2nd.

@CollegeBoardJaJa I really think you’re underestimating the holistic reviews that these top schools do. If he is able to bring his ACT and/or SAT up, he has a really good shot at the top schools.

To answer your question about ED, I might say to wait and apply regular decision so that you have time to pull up your SAT and ACT scores. If your scores rose to those levels, that would be incredibly helpful! But I would even say aim for a 2250+ or a 34+ just so you can make up for the very low gpa.

Hmm… Good point. Well, let me ask this. Has there been an upward trend in your GPA? If so that would be great. First of all, it would show that you’ve become more dedicated to your academics over time. Also, if you got a high ACT/SAT, it would show that you aren’t a “lazy genius,” but rather just someone who is very smart when he/she puts forth effort.

@CiaoRagazzi I honestly don’t believe they will notice that bad of the grades of me being a “lazy genius”. One of the factors will be that they will be seeing an upward basically linear trend in my grades and GPA per year.

Well thats good, but then they could ask, why didnt you apply yourself earlier if you were innately very bright? Just asking potential questions, not trying to discourage you.

Sure I wouldn’t mind taking more test materials! :)

The thing about ED is for the school I would like to get into (Wharton UPenn) They said for ED they WILL take my most recent SAT/ACT scores that are in October and November respectively so technically I do have time if I felt confident about my scores not really that I have much of a choice though…
