Do you think I have a shot?

As many CCers have told me, I'm going to apply ED to my dream school. I used to want to go to Princeton or Columbia, but I don't think I can get into Princeton (although I devoted much time contacting them and visiting and such..)

I've been getting different opinions all over the place. So please help me!

Here's my stat.

SAT: currently 2090, taking it again after some prep in Oct.
SAT II: 800 Math IIc, 720 chem, 740 US History, 800 Korean
TOEFL: expecting perfect score.
GPA: 3.7uw/4.0 3.8 weighted (school only give .5 to APs IF AP test for that course was taken)
Will have taken 8 APs by senior year
very demanding courses
School doesn't rank but I think top 10%. Fairfax County public school. Challenging I guess. avg SAT about 1200 at my school. the highest GPA in my senior class presumably is 4.1 weighted.

Pretty good recs expected. Recs got me into several good programs. gonna ask same teachers.

ECs.

The representative of my school at county's youth leadership program
The liaison of choral department
Select Vocal Ensemble
Boys State delegate
Boys Nation nominee
Student leader/tutor at charity org.
Student writer for local newspaper
started a small business (translating)

Awards.
East coast wide essay contest 1st place winner
Academic letters
American Legion Best Citizen Medal
Award of appreciation for my service from my diocese (church district covering several counties)
St. Paul's award for essay.
buncha district and regional chorus awards
etc.

Ummm hmm..
Asian (not minority right? I've acutally read someone's post that said -100 on SAT for Asians...)
came to US 5 years ago
multilangual

I think that's it...

What's my chance?
at
Ivies
Johns Hopkins
Georgetown
UVA
Duke

I know Ivies are reaches for everyone but still....
I would like to know which one I have the best chance at so I can have realistical college list by middle of July. Gotta get started on those common app essays seniors!

please help me!

Thanx!

eh, need higher than 3.7 unweighted GPA to get into vies...

boring ECs...

Asian (that won't help you!)

very little chance at the schools you listed...

As other CCers have mentioned, you're really harsh!
but I guess whipping is a better motivator!
At least you didn't say ZERO chance like on other posts!
I'll just be grateful for that and work on the things you said I need to improve upon.

Boring ECs, huh? hmm.. any idea on how to "spice" it up? maybe eating contest... lol

Yea, being an Asian won't help at all... maybe I should say I'm from Mars or something.. a REAL URM.

Thanks for your response, go-vibe!

This can be debated. I do not believe it to be true.

me neither

Pton's avg. HS GPA is 3.8
and JHU is 3.66

so Fandangoya what do you think? any advises? opinion?

I really appreciate it!

BTW, I love Fandango lol always use that site to buy tickets!

I guess you could use go-vibe's words to motivate yourself, but after reading quite a few of his posts, I think he just likes to be sarcastic and mock people. :P

There's nothing lacking about your EC's, and besides, senior year is really too late to "spice them up." The best thing you can do to improve your application at this point is to just increase your GPA and SAT score.

first, stop making multiple posts

second, and i'm sorry, no chance for Ivies. SAT is too low. 3.7 uw GPA is extremely bad for ivy level.

sorry for multiple posts but
after your post, Bobert, I thought I need to hear others' opinion from broader perspective.

YES I KNOW that my SAT is low I admitted and I asked you for some advises and you gave me some. I GET it.

now GPA. Yes again I admit. There was some fiasco in junior year that messed me up but I doubt my GC will put that on as comment.

As Raspberry Heaven said, I WILL work on my GPA and SAT senior year.

However, I thank you, Bobert, for good advises on raising SAT scores. BTW, no offense intended at all, but how do you know so much about Ivies?

dont worry, ur fine. a 3.7 is great and i doubt that if you had a 3.8 it would make much of a difference. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE! just keep up your grades, take challenging classes, and the rising trend will do the work for you. the only thing that you really should have to worry about would be your SAT. could you try to get it above 2200?

also, try to get some sort of leadership positions and show that you're passionate in one or two things, not just a scattering here and there.

just been on this site for too long

this would be more appropriate in the chances forum, but...

all of the ivies are reaches, so are the rest too, except uva which is probably reach/match.

3.7+ and 2200+, IMHO is a "passing" level for adcoms to look at ECs..

mr_chipset, what?

thank you everyone.

Yes I will work on SAT and GPA...

what is my chance at JHU ED?

i think you have a good chance at JHU, better chance at UVA maybe. i know people with your stats who have gotten into those schools . you have a shot at all of them.

Yea mr_chipset, I wanna know what you mean as well. "Passing level?" I've got extraordinary EC's, but my test scores are lacking. So adcoms won't even look at the rest of my application?

mr_chipset, what?

[/quote]

I'm saying that there is no big difference between 3.7 and 3.8. If 3.7 is better at ECs they probably will take 3.7.

college89, sorry, but what do you mean by all of them?

I know you all are going to competitive/challenging HS, but would adcoms know that?

for example.
my HS
94-100 A
90-93 B+
84-89 B
and so on

avg. SAT is 1200

prob. the highest GPA (HS only puts weighted GPA on transcript) in my senior class is 4.1 (I will have 3.9 if I really work my ass off senior year)

just seems impossible for the adcoms to really take in the HS profile and determine if a HS is challenging or w/e

AHH I see thank you mr_chipset.

dittogal I saw your stat and you're like amazing!
your GPA is about the same as me (of course we go to diff. HS so may be diff, but for comparison's sake)
your ECs are really solid, too. I can just tell by in a snap you're really into golf.

It's not really incorporated into my stat on here, but I want to show the adcoms my passion in chorus.

Since presidents in clubs are mostly popularity contest, I didn't win much of those... (I'm actually one of those Fresh Off the Boat Asians who hang out with non-Asian people, but still... can't beat attractive and popular white students at votes! lol) Of course if I had natural charisma or students actually listen to speeches that would change the story..

went off topic sorry.

I didn't list all the ECs because like you, Dittogal, said would seem all over the place so I put the ones that seemed kinda organized and show WHO I AM, but I guess they didn't. Any advise on how to kinda tie them together since it's too late now to do nething about the ECs.

Thanks everyone!

I would appreciate more opinion on chances!
Thanks!

Good for UVA and JHU
