Chance a Biology major

<p>Biology is competitive, I am also asian O_O.</p>

Class rank: 12 / 420 (top 3 %)
AP’s: Government, CompSciA, CalcAB, US Hist(3), Literature(3)
SAT: 1780 (600m, 600cr, 580w, 8 essay) -not retaking
ACT: 27 (31m, 25e, 26r, 25s) -not retaking
Subject tests: Math 2 (~650), Biology (~600), Physics (~700)</p>

<p>-1st gen college student!
-medium-low income (50k for 4 people)</p>

<p>-Tennis all 4 years, last two years being varsity possibly co-captain this year
-Volunteered at surplus medical supply distributor (helps with major obviously)
-Presidential volunteering award; bronze level</p>

<p>You are probably right on the edge. Spend some quality time on your essay and have a solid plan B in mind.</p>

<p>Being Asian has nothing to do with whether you get in or not.</p>

<p>I say high match/low reach. Biology is a competitive major, but it is possible that you may get in.</p>

<p>Speaking about majors, how easy would it be to change majors at UCD? Let’s say I do “East Asian Studies” and go to “Biological Sciences”. Because I’m pretty sure that my chances are vastly increased if I go for a less impacted major, who knows how many people are going for Biology.</p>

<p>Changing majors is really easy. Once you’ve been in for a quarter, you just need to get a few signatures. The exception to that is if you’re switching to a major that requires certain classes to be completed first, which I don’t know if any of the biosci majors do, in which case those classes need to be completed before you can petition for the change. Also, you need to have the dean of your former college and your new college sign the petition in addition to major advisers if you’re switching colleges (which you would in the example you mentioned).</p>
