Essay- excellent...about how the election of Barack Obama affected me in discovering that anyone (a minority like myself) could be elected POTUS.

Letter of Recs- one from my favorite Honors Spanish teacher and one from my counselor who is a family friend so they are both amazing. Also, I recieved one from the City Council President that I interned for. He typed it and placed on official city "letter head" and signed it.

Your essay sounds kind of cheesy, but if you have confidence then I urge you the best. Getting letters of recommendation from friends (those who have your best interests at heart) is definitely a major plus … and the City Council President’s letter can’t hurt either. Your SAT is really the only thing stopping you from reaching above and beyond; if you have the chance, I’d strongly recommend that you go for a retake. Also, have you taken any SAT II’s?

I can’t say that I’m at all familiar with the selective nature of the schools that you listed, but I’m tempted to say that you are at a match/match-reach when it comes to every one of them (except Vanderbilt which seems like a reach … although the average SAT score is apparently a 2040, so you’re not too far off).

yeah your sat scores are bring you down. i suggest some english sat2s
your ecs are amazing i think you are in everything except your high reaches, those im not sure ur sats cut it, try to get them up if possible

chance me back.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/811782-ivy-league-2014-others.html

Yeah you should take some SAT II’s, but overall, I’d say In at all matches and safeties. Wisconsin and Maryland are iffy, because those are somewhat math schools for public schools, and your 500 Math isn’t doing you any favors. High reach at UNC, don’t know about Vandy (sorry).

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/812189-chance-me.html

Man I would kill for those reading and writing scores, but c’mon man, you coulda done a lot better on math!
Match for all except vanderbilt, which will be quite a reach for you.

Chance me!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/811317-university-michigan.html

Nice EC’s, bro. Incredible…

Grades are sweet, too, especially from a top school.

I’m in the same boat as you with math. It’s my worst subject. I worked with a private Kaplan tutor, and although it was expensive, my scores went up 80 points in math and also 60 in critical reading and 20 in writing.

You’ll be all right for OSU, but I don’t know about it. Out-of-state public school fees are atrocious.

Agree with you on safeties.

If you really make a powerful case and get several heartfelt recs, then maybe a chance at Vanderbilt. State schools might not be as interested in the “whole you,” and less willing to read anything extra, especially if you are out of state.

UNC because it is big, public, and out of state might not be as understanding as Vanderbilt, even if Vanderbilt is a bit harder to get into.

Temple sounds possible, and honors would be great, though I don’t know what that does to selectivity rates.

Essay topic sounds hard to make credible. Also, remember that there could be Republicans reading it. Don’t censor yourself (I wrote last year about being at the scene of a riot against a bunch of Nazis and segued into talking about canvassing for Obama in a bad neighborhood, too), but don’t be too opinionated. Don’t brag about canvassing at night in rough neighborhoods. While cool, it might make you sound easily intimidated. There are going to be kids who have done much more dangerous things.

Wisconsin is a pretty involved place and will be especially impressed by your political EC’s. I think it could be a match for you.

Having your ideas become law is amazing beyond words. Maybe write about that. How does it feel? How did you become involved? Why?

Get interviews wherever you can and share these amazing EC’s (and a couple good stories from them) with them. If you blow them away, they can serve as useful contacts and advocates, especially if it could push you over the edge.

Once again, I bow down to your amazing EC’s and admire your views. I hope you get elected some day!

Best of luck. I hope this helps. Can you chance me? I’d appreciate it. The link is enclosed below. Thanks. Peace.

Just an FYI, the average for Temple honors last year was a 3.85/4.0 UW GPA and a 1337/1600 on the SATs and that’ll likely go up next year.

Since this is going to be a lame post, I won’t ask you to chance me back.

You’re right about everything. UNC and Vanderbilt are reaches. Ohio, Temple, Pitt, and Connecticut are matches. Rutgers is a safety.

Question: can you pay the bill for an OOS public?

I dont know much about UNC, but I wouldnt be too terribly surprised if you get into Vandy  your UW GPA and ranks seems a bit low, but your courseload is obviously high. your SATS are probaly top 10 percent nationwide, not sure though. I socred a 2050 and collegeboard has me at the 95th percentile. Your community service and government positions are great, although idelly id like to see more leadership and displayed dedication to a club. If anything they will help you though  I have to agree that your essay seems real cheesy, but ur reccomendations seem like they will be stunning :stuck_out_tongue: Good Luck! Dont, worry youll be fine  http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/812675-p-third-power-last-chance-before-i-hit-submit.html

The chances you stated seem about right. However, I would say that Rutgers isn’t a safety and that is University of Maryland is more of a reach.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1062913-chance-senior-i-will-chance-back-if-you-post-link.html#post1066176199

No one will chance me!! Someone please…

I think most of your things are correct. Except I believe that rutgers isn’t a safety since your not instate. Temple is a safety for you maybe not for honors though. Your matches and normal reaches you have a pretty good chance of getting accepted to.
Goodluck and can you chance back

You’ll get into all of them

You’re reaches are matches! You’re ECs are amazing!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1060384-am-i-setting-my-sights-too-high.html

^Agreed.

Just get those scores up and you should be good. Vanderbilt is closer than UNC, IMO. But slightly better ACT could get you in.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1063409-chances-uva-will-chance-back.html#post1066180073

You’ll probably get into all of your school except Vanderbilt and UNC. Vanderbilt is a huge reach while UNC is a pretty big one. Also, dont necessarily count on Maryland or Wisconsin although youll probably get in. Chance me back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1055030-do-i-have-chance-suny-binghamton-suny-geneseo.html?highlight=geneseo

Ur EC’s and Sat II’s look strong however i am not so sure if ur SAT’s will cut it for your reach colleges. Try bringing them up or just hope for the best .

Chance back at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1060886-chance-hopeful-will-chance-back.html
