Chance a dreamer! (ivy league schools, especially UPENN)

your 7th and 8th grade grades aren't gonna count.

@geoffreychaucher: His reply did dash some hopes, yet that's life...o well.
@newyorka: seems like there's some sort of history of discontent...lol
@pbailey: That's great to hear ^ ^
@sidfromaus: I am not particularly interested in business, or anything at that, so I just plan on applying uh...normally? Also, I really don't want to indulge those colleges with their exorbitant fees...eww
@NeoEpisteme: My school does not rank. GPA wise I probably would not be, yet in other respects, I am the highest ranking.
@ll0124: And they should not! These 7th and 8th grade marks are for high school courses taken during middle school, and WILL appear on my transcript. But, many other schools nationwide do not participate in this practice, so my GPA SHOULD be around a 3.84!

Wow, it's amazing to see a local at such a prominent internet website. Guess what? I'm in MCYO too (i play viola), and also in MoCo debate. AND I'm also interning this summer at the State's Attorney's office. And I also plan to go to law school. And I'm also Korean. Freaky.(this is like seeing my own profile!)

that aside, I think you have a pretty decent chance of getting into wherever you want. The GPA is not top-notch but your rigorous courses (typical in MoCo, no? those crazy asian mothers and bethesda jewish parents) will definitely be favorable to the admission gods. Very nice EC's, love how you really emphasized your ethnicity as one of your core focuses. asians don't do it enough. Amazing, AMAZING SAT scores, and I presume you'll get good AP scores. Really, I don't see almost any faults in your resume. Great ECs, great scores, pretty darn good GPA, just make sure you haven't been kvetching to the teachers so they can give you a great recommendation. :)

tip--stay away from those Walter Johnson debaters if you live in MoCo. They are ruthless. LOL

@limetime: OMFG this is so weird. I also play viola too, and I think I may have seen you before at the office...this world is so small.

wait wait wait...you're interning summer, too??
We totally got to meet up...this is like looking at a mirror, NO KIDDING.

Yes wikee, the 8 out 0f 10 CCers who will not be getting into the ivies they're applying to are probably not too fond of my posts....

@newyorka...u gotta stop evaluating people's chances as if they went to an elite private school too. This kid has good chances...and if I could make it to Wharton as an international, then he certainly can make Upenn's other schools.

Just chill dude! And, if you do decide to stick with your harsh predictions, atleast try and give some advice. I swear, i m starting to think there were other reasons as to why your 'top notch' admissions counsellor predicted low chances at HYP-calibre schools.

newyorka, although harsh in his opinions, seems to prefer that people take more of a realistic/pessimistic approach, as such diminishes dissapointment and the like. from what i've seen of his posts, there is some validity; yet, college admissions are unpredictable at times, and i'd rather canvass opinions from many sources. if i balance all the "criticisms," then im bound to get something reasonable.

I agree with newyorka - you may not like how it sounds, but none of the Ivies are "safe" unless you are a serious, developmental candidate or a recruited athlete that has been to the Olympics.

Yet newyorka (fitting name by the way...) does not offer much advice to people...he simply dismisses most people's chances and moves on.

Also, simply because one high school student says the chances of someone's admission are low does not mean one should not give it a chance and go for it.

If I simply said that every single person had no chance of admission to Yale, I would be right 90+ % of the time....................yet that really is missing the point.

i guess some advice would be nice, but my college fate is pretty much decided right now...

bumping lolol
