Chance a dude with low GPA/high scores for Ivies + Bowdoin, Pomona, Amherst...

Please chance me for the following (pl0x?):
- Harvard (mom attended as an undergrad, dad attended law school + works there, uncle attended)
- Dartmouth (dad attended as an undergrad)
- Brown
- Bowdoin
- Pomona + Claremont McKenna
- Middlebury
- Amherst
- Trinity (in CT)
- Wesleyan
- Boston College

I will NOT be applying for financial aid at any of these schools.

I'm a junior at a silver-medal (according to USNWR) public school in Massachusetts

Ranked top 5% of approximately 400 kids

UW GPA: 3.67 (low b/c of one C+ freshman year but large upward trend since then)

W GPA: 4.42

Can only start taking AP courses sophomore year (and only two that year)...
- Sophomore AP: US History (5), Biology (4)
- Junior AP (currently taking): European History, Physics B, Statistics
- Senior AP (already chose courses): Macroeconomics, Chemistry, Spanish 5, Literature

SAT scores:
- SAT I: 2290 (770 CR, 720 M, 800 WR) - retaking this fall
- SAT II: 780 US History, taking Spanish (with listening) and Literature and maybe Physics this fall

Extracurriculars:
- I don't want to go into them really for for of revealing my identity (I know kids who go on CC in my school), but I hold two leadership positions and am heavily, heavily involved in outdoor/environmental activities and soccer and baseball (these are my passions)

Work:
- Work at local food market over the summer, almost every day

Summers:
- Summer after 9th grade I did a mission trip to Guatemala
- Summer after 10th I did a youth leadership wilderness program to Canada
- This summer I will (most likely) be doing another youth leadership wilderness program, this time to Colorado

Thanks a lot.

Harvard - medium/high reach

 • Dartmouth - low/medium reach
 • Brown-medium reach
 • Bowdoin- match
 • Pomona + Claremont McKenna- high match
 • Middlebury-high match
 • Amherst-match/high match
 • Trinity (in CT)-idk
 • Wesleyan-match
 • Boston College-match

Just work on getting your uw GPA up into the 3.7,3.8 range, as an upward trend is favorably looked upon

I think that calling Harvard a medium reach is bold. The legacy helps, but I would still call it a high reach for you. Your chances are similar at Brown, where they are generally a bit less selective, but you don’t have a legacy advantage there.

Have you considered Princeton, where they don’t consider freshmen year grades?

I actually hadn’t even thought about Princeton; I had no idea they didn’t consider freshman grades…

well that’s actually quite a relief to me. Maybe I’ll look into it now.

I just thought I’d have a little little little more chance that my dad works in admissions at Harvard, but I realize that my GPA is still waaaay low for Harvard and my EC’s are nothing spectacular.

bumpzorz??

i believe stanford also doesn’t look at freshman grades

wow, your 3.67 is SO LOW!

ha yeah it isn’t low considering it makes you top 5% :D
