I found out when I was trying to get docs for a learner's permit. :( Unfortunately, some colleges will count me as an "international student," so that should be taken into consideration.

I have no idea for Cornell, Dartmouth, or Amherst but I definitely think you’re in everywhere else (UChicago if you have a cool essay - which prompt did you pick? :))

Cornell, Chicago, Dartmouth - Reaches
Amherst - High match
Wesleyan, Oberlin, Bryn Mawr, William and Mary - Low match

Check them both please! it’s really important! thanks

^ I chanced the top one but don’t know anything about Babson, sorry.

Any more chances?? My top choices are Bryn Mawr, Cornell, Amherst, Dartmouth, Chicago & Oberlin

Bump!! Any more chances??

Bump please! I’ll chance back…

I disagree with Kilforstern on Amherst. Amherst is a fair bit MORE selective than U of Chicago, not less. Amherst accepts around 12% of applicants; Chicago accepts 25-30% depending on where you read–big difference. SAT 25%-75% ranges are about the same; ACT ranges also about the same (Amherst is 1 point higher). Also, Amherst is more selective than Cornell by a long shot, despite Cornell being “Ivy”. Look up the numbers. I think that Amherst would be a reach; however, your being an URM may help, since Amherst highly values diversity.

^^^ Apparently, somebody hasn’t been keeping up with the modern world of admissions. Chicago will have an 8-9% acceptance rate this year. Amherst is set to be 13-14%.

Amherst IS more selective than Cornell, though.

bump!

AndI know that a lot of these are reaches for anyone, but based on what each school places the most emphasis on (like how jennieling said Amherst values diversity), where would I have the best chances with the super competitive schools? Bryn Mawr is another one of my top choices as well, what would my chances be there?

bump…

U of Chicago-low reach
Cornell-match
Dartmouth-match
Amherst-match
Wesleyan-safety for everything below
Oberlin
Bryn Mawr
William and Mary

Virginia Tech
Drexel
Hofstra

^Thanks! But for the record, the international acceptance rate for Oberlin is about 10%… I think being from an underrepresented country/region might be an advantage compared to other internationals, but its definitely more competitive…

Any more chances? Pleeeeaaseee

Cornell, Dartmouth, UChicago, Amherst- Low reach/match (Ivies are hard to tell)
Everything else you’re matches and safeties!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1459186-nyu-please-answer-chance-me.html

UChicago’s admissions rate was 16% last year. phuriku, where are you getting your estimates?

I think the OP is in really good shape; even without URM status, you’re a good candidate, but I’d be very surprised if you didn’t get into at least one of your reaches, which I’d peg as Dartmouth, UChicago, and Amherst. Yes, the Ivies are unpredictable but Cornell feels more like a match regardless.

I really don’t think Cornell is a match since they won’t look at your writing SAT at all which leaves you with a 1450. This is below average for the college of arts and sciences at Cornell. Also the admit rate is around 13% for the college of arts and sciences and this year was far more competitive than other years with a 17% increase in ED applications. Cornell is certainly as selective as Amherst or U Chicago.
