Chance a High School Junior!

I’m a second semester junior, and I need some help with my college list/chances.

Academics
UW GPA: 4.0; W GPA: 4.725 (my school awards an extra 0.025 for each honors/AP course)

AP Classes Taken: AP Human Geography, AP Biology, AP US History, AP Statistics, AP Psychology
Honors Classes Taken: H English 9, H English 10, H Principles of Healthcare, H Intro to Healthcare (healthcare classes required for my school’s Healthcare Academy), H Spanish 3, H Pre-Calculus, H Chemistry, H Biology

Current Schedule - AP Chemistry, AP Gov and Politics, AP Calc BC, Creative Writing, H Medical Terminology, AP Lang, H Anatomy & Physiology, H Spanish 4

Standardized Tests
SAT - 1580
ACT - 35
SAT Subject Tests - 750 (Biology M), 760 (US History)
AP - all 5’s on 5 listed above
PSAT - 1500

Extracurriculars
Debate (10-12) - Founder, captain, state semifinalist, NCFL Qualifier; extreme commitment, as we don’t have a coach & I have to take on many of the coaching duties. Our team grew from four to ten members last year, all qualifying for state.

HOSA (10-12) - Vice President, likely President next year

Reading Roots (Founder, 9-12) - organization at my school that works to foster literacy in our area with book drives and volunteering with disadvantaged youth at a local literacy center

Student Government (10-12) - Former Sophomore Class Co-President, Current Junior Class Vice President; major class responsibilities, like planning the $30,000 prom budget and consulting with administration about class concerns

LINK Crew Leader - Run freshman orientation, act as a mentor for a core group of freshmen

Tennis - not very good, but have played since 6th grade

Track & Field - Varsity, but not recruit level

Creative Writing - 1 National Scholastic gold medal, 1 Regional Scholastic gold key, 5 silver keys, 1 honorable mention; lots of writing as a hobby

Honor Societies - Science and National, pretty low commitment at my school

I’m an African-American female.
My school is a pretty average public school and has never sent anyone to an Ivy.
I intend to major in Neuroscience and maybe minor in Public Health or Public Policy.

Current List:
Stanford
Princeton
Yale
Harvard
University of Michigan
University of Wisconsin-Madison (in state)
UNC-Chapel Hill
Northwestern
Bowdoin
USC
Pomona

My guidance counselor is unable to give me much insight, as she hasn’t had a student apply to a lot of these colleges. Suggestions for my list are welcome!

Fantastic stats and accomplishments. You have a great shot at many of the schools on your list. But many of them accept such a low rate of students that you can’t count on them no matter what your stats and EC’s are (unless you apply ED to something like Bowdoin where you have an extremely high likelihood of being accepted). You have one clear safety. Are you satisfied with it? If so, great. If not, perhaps add some matches that you like more than your safety but are less anything-is-possible than most on your list.

@futuredoctoryang you are on track to do amazing things in your life. Keep up the good work. If need any other help or questions about college admissions, feel free to pm me.

@citivas Thanks for your reply! I’m having a tough time finding safeties just from the research I’ve done so far & I would love any recommendations.

@MrElonMusk Thanks, will do!

Great stats! I definetly see your reaches being Ivy Leagues, Top schools and more. For safeties and matches, no one on this forum can give that to you, as it is too broad of a question. For matches, try 30-40% acceptance rates based on what major your interested in and if you like the school, and for safeties pick schools that have around a 50%-70% acceptance rate. Based on your state and what you want to study, that’s what will determine your matches and safeties. Best of luck

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Write good essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Dannggg $30,000… I’d be surprised if my school had more than like $3000 haha

Match: Stanford Princeton Yale Harvard, UNC, Panoma, Bowdoin USC
Wisconsin is safety

Your scores are top notch, you have good EC, and your minority status definitely helps.

Add more safeties. Case Western is a good idea for safety they will probably throw you 35k/yr (or more) merit aid considering your SAT and minority status.

consider WashU , Emory and Vanderbilt in addition to UMich & UWisc.
You would be accepted by 1/4 to 1/3 of your wish-list above.
