Varsity soccer captain, varsity track, soccer club team captain, president of national honor society, member of science and Spanish honor society, starter for math league, member of an organization called Kalawawa in which we fundraiser and donate money to the poor children of Bolivia in south America, pretty good essays (wrote about Bolivia and my dad as an immigrant and about my best friend ). One decent teacher recommendation and one GREAT one. I'm applying to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, Boston College, Boston University. Chance me please and I'll chance back!

You have really good stats, I would give you a pretty good shot. Make sure to apply to a lot, all of the Ivy League and some minor colleges. Being a minority can really play to your advantage as the are shooting for more diversity.

I think you have great chances at every school. That said I would recommend doing more research on your safety school than on the schools listed here except BU. Make sure you find a school that you would like because admissions can be a lottery at times. Also if money is an issue there are plenty of colleges that have programs for Latinos. But then again Ivy aid packages aren’t bad :)

Just for clarification:
International? Immigrant?
Also: Income? (Not a figure per se, more of a bracket)

Forgive me if I seem nosy, but factors such as the above do affect college decisions.

That being said, the American system of college admissions favors minorities such as you (and me lol). Overall, though, good chances (from what I can tell), although you seem as if you have a dearth and lack of focus regarding extracurriculars in comparison to other applicants (I think my application suffers from that a bit). That, and maybe your SAT spanish score (not bad, but not ideal either). Overall, though, being that you’re applying RD, you will have less competition in mind, so I’d give you a green light (with caution: Ivy’s are unpredictable).

Thanks everybody! and yeah my parents are immigrants from Bolivia. I was born here in the U.S. My family income is according to my mother, “Any college you got to, i’ll be able too afford” so i dont think money is a problem. But how does income play a role in the application?

No problem. Income is a factor somewhat since colleges factor in socioeconomic status and partially ethnicity on the terms of potential social hardship and also in terms of financial aid. A bit superfluous, since I chanced you already on what you have, but it’s just one of those random factors that colleges consider. I’m not saying it makes or breaks the application; in fact, consider you are applying to Yale and Princeton, I’d urgely consider financial aid, for they are generous and have the resources available (considering that if you make less than 60,000 per year, the cost to attend is relatively zero).

When I worked in college admissions, my peers and I were often struck by those checking Hispanic who were not National Hispanic scholars. Fact is many didn’t identify as hispanic until it became clear it might help in college admission.

What I’ll say is being Hispanic can be a boost. Especially if you’re low income, first gen, inner city and applying to schools with few hispanic applicants. It is nothing close to the boost of being NA or AA, but it helps outside of CA, NY, TX and other states that don’t see lots of qualified Hispanic students.

You should get into one of HYP as a hispanic with those stats. Good luck.

Thanks guys but id having such a high income without the need of financial aid a good or bad thing in the application process? and yeah i know being hispanic isnt a great hook like being African American but I’m hoping it’ll at least help to an extent. hopefully haha

I’m a little jealous of your amazing grades. Good job! You’ll definitely get into an Ivy League. Chance me?

thank you!

Bumpity bump bump

anybody else? to calm my anxiety?
