Chance a Junior! (and help cut down my ridiculous college list)

about the youth group…itll help a little…not much.
but its worth it if you hold a leadership postion. but ur ec’s are pretty good so its not like u really really need something to bring you to shine.
so its basically up to you!

Your ec’s are very typical of a science student (not necessarily a bad thing)
The Chinese though is very good it may make you stand out
If your school has OotM, join it.
Overall good chances

@bandgeek1: our state’s OotM is terrible, first of all…i believe only 1 high school in Illinois DOES it. plus, the registration is a bit pricey, and the difficulty doesn’t stack up compared to science olympiad…at least, in my completely biased opinion. thanks for sizing me up though, i’m glad i chose chinese. everyone keeps telling me it has become my biggest hook (phew!)

@PaniRap: I WAS NOT AWARE OF THAT SITE, THANK YOU SO MUCH. maybe it could help me with homework someday…
lol, i’ll definitly check out teenink.com.
and how long do research internships usually take? i know they’re usually in the summer, and since it’s too late this year, i really don’t want it to conflict with a probable scholarship to taiwan next year.

thank you both for your opinions!

If there isn’t a lot in Illinois that means your chances of going to World finals is really high. The competition there is insane. OotM is very difficult at Worlds level. Way more than any science olympiad comp could ever have. You’ll be competing against kids who can build a balsa structure that weighs 10 oz. and hold a small elephant.

we’re SUPPOSED to be able to do that for the SciOly bridge competition…thankfully, i’m not part of the build team. i guess i’ll look into it!

Hey thanks for chancing on my post. I think you have decent numbers, though I would try and bring up your SAT’s and get your subject tests done as soon as possible. Your gpa might hurt you somewhat in admissions, but it can be made up for if you do a considerable amount with your chinese and math. that’s my advice!

i’m getting coached by a pretty good tutor right now, so hopefully that will cause my SAT scores to skyrocket lol. I actually think i’m going to get my subject tests done at the end of the year; after i have completed AP Physics and AP Calculus BC. that way it’ll be easier to nail Physics and Math II. My GPA does suck though, but i mean…if you don’t count freshman year i did alright…thank goodness princeton, umich, and stanford don’t count it  i’m definitly going to try my hardest to achieve in Chinese and math. Thank you for your input!

lol no prob :stuck_out_tongue:
hmm…honestly that depends on what type of project you take. i cant really say. good projects usually take up to 4 months though. did you already apply for scholarship in taiwan or something? and if you get it, ur heading over to study in taiwan for the summer? if i got that right, then…hmm…your only shot of getting the research thing in is making time for it during the school year. junior yr kinda of a bad yr already to start researching during that time, but it seems to me that thats ur best shot since you sound cocnfident about the taiwan thing.
