Also, This summer I'm going to spend a week volunteering at a camp for children with muscular dystrophy
Wow... that's all I can remember off of the top of my head. It's pretty pathetic compared to what a bunch of other people had. I wish I did some kind of school sport. Oh well.

Work
This Summer I plan to get a paid research job at a local university. Maybe another job if I have time, probably not.

Other activities
I don't know if this counts for anything, but I rock climb pretty much weekly, and build computers in my spare time, and I figured I would somehow work that into my application.
I'm also thinking about getting a weekly radio show on my local university's radio station.

Thanks, any help is appreciated. I'm starting to feel pretty bad about college applications after people from my school way more qualified than I am are getting rejected everywhere.

Emory, UVA, NYU, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, Northwestern (sister attends), and possibly Boston College, UChicago, or Amherst

Ull be alright for those… I Think ull get in… most likely

A little lacking? It seems like your ECs are pretty solid. I’d say that you’ve got a pretty good shot.

Your thinking that your ECs are lacking makes me nervous about my ECs.

PSAT - 234, Hoping for National Merit Finalist: guaranteed, even in nj/ma. just don’t bomb the app essay haha

ECs: Not lacking. You’re an Eagle Scout, which is impressive in and of itself. You also do Quiz Bowl, Model UN, Science Olympiad, and a few fun clubs. Remember… the key to ECs is DEPTH, not BREADTH. If you have a passion for one of these clubs, and let that show, it’s more impressive than doing a bunch of random clubs. For example, I’m President of Model UN/Congress (3 hrs/wk) and Team Captain of Mock Trial (8 hrs/wk). The effort put into those, in and out of school, is more impressive than tagging along for a few competitions in another club. Show your passion.

Also, in the interview, they’ll ask what you do outside of school. That’s when you say rock climbing and building computers.

You will get into every college from Zman1’s list.

More qualified than a 234, 2320, 3.95, and slew of ECs? Am I missing something? My friend had a 225, 2300, 4.00, and 3 clubs and got into Wharton. I’d say you have a 50/50 shot at Harvard, even. Brown you’ll def. get into.

Note that I’m not eagle scout yet… I lost a lot of my interest in boy scouts and now I’m really having to scramble to try to finish. I might not even get done, I’ve got a few time consuming badges left to finish. This is all pretty reassuring though, I was pretty sure my ECs were terrible. I’m slightly less worried about college admissions now, thanks for the input and making me feel better about my ECs, haha.

Dang, if you think your ECs are lacking, I don’t even wanna know what you think about mine. LOL…

As for your chances, I would say
Brown- most likely in
Harvard- Reach
Emory-In
UVA-not sure
NYU-not sure
Vanderbilt- probably in, although my friend got wait listed, and he’s just effin a genius
Northwestern-match
Boston College, UChicago, or Amherst- I would even go as far as safeties?

Compared to other people at my school, my ECs are pretty lacking… For instance, I knew this one guy this year who’s a Siemens semifinalist, the valedictorian, SGA + NHS president, in quiz bowl, in Science Olympiad, in tons of other major clubs he devoted time into, got all 5s on his AP tests, and he still only got into Vanderbilt and Caltech. (Not that that’s bad… but he got rejected at 8/10 or so schools.) Another person with an application similar to mine has had to settle for a mediocre state school, he got rejected everywhere. That shook me up a bit. But yeah, thanks to everyone for relieving my fears, I’m still nervous though, haha.

I think you are obviously a very competitive applicant for all of the schools you applied to. I think that you should apply to Brown ED because you can definitely get in with that legacy of yours. I think Brown ED is a good plan.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/695607-wrong-me-fall-love-these-schools-chance-me-tell.html

I feel bad about bumping this all the way to the top. I was wondering though, would it help or hurt at all that I’m from TN and my family has a 200,000+ income? I forgot to add this in the initial post and I’m just now remembering.

Vanderbilt for sure. I know someone who got in with way less than that.
