Chance a junior for Northwestern (will chance back if requested!!!)

Hey everyone,

I've been on these board for quite a while, but, since many of my senior friends are freaking out about college decisions, I just now decided to make an account and was wondering if someone would chance me as a junior (basically am I on the right track or no to apply next year?). Much appreciated! I am an Asian male and attend a semi-competitive public high school. While Northwestern is my absolute dream school, I expect to attend one of the less-competitive schools as my resume isn't too impressive compared to other stats I have seen (and admired hahaha :P).

I hope to pursue artificial intelligence and economics in college.

Thanks for the chance!!! Also, what can I do to improve my app for NU for when I apply next year?

Stats:

-GPA: 3.85 (currently ranked in top 5% of class)
-SAT: 2200
-APs: National AP Scholar with Honor (sophomore) - received a 3 on Bio, though
-USAMO Qualifier
-DECA Internationals Qualifier
-Captain of Science Olympiad at my high school - I have top 5 individual finishes at State competition
-Started working in a research lab this year and will continue through senior yr (9 hrs/wk)
-Have competed and received accomplishments for a sport at national and international levels
-Co-founded a charity that has raised $10,000 for underprivileged children
-Subject test scores: 800 on Math II, 720 on Physics

Thanks so much!

You’ll have a good shot at getting into NU if you work hard for the rest of your junior year and through your senior fall, and demonstrate a lot of interest in the school! Be sure to visit, interview, etc. If it is truly your dream school, do everything that you possibly can in order to increase your chances! Also, definitely consider applying ED (depending on your financial situation.) That said, your stats are definitely solid and your extracurriculars are awesome. Last December I had an 1890 on the SAT and a pretty mediocre GPA, but I put in the work and now I have a 2240 and a much higher GPA (and I’ll find out tomorrow whether or not I got into NU…yikes.) You can do it, just stay motivated!

seems like you’re on the right track. keep up the good work! applying early decision will boost your chances if you know you’re committed to NU. as long as you do really well in your junior year, you have a decent chance of getting in
